About Gianni Russo
Since the beginning of his career as an actor, Russo had owned a restaurant in Las Vegas known as Gianni Russo’s State Street, which was located at 2570 State Street on the Las Vegas Strip until 1988. In addition, he has been successful in defending himself against 23 federal criminal indictments on a variety of charges stemming from alleged associations with organized crime. He is most well-known for his performance as Carlo Rizzi in the film The Godfather, which was released in 1972.
Russo asserts that while he was a teenager, he began a nascent career in organized crime by working as an errand boy and mafia associate for Frank Costello, but that he later gave up the risky and unpredictable lifestyle of organized crime.
After reprising his role as Carlo Rizzi in a brief flashback scene at the conclusion of The Godfather Part II, Russo went on to act in more than 46 movies, some of which include: Goodnight, My Love (1972), Lepk, Laserblast (1978), Chances Are, The Freshman (1990), Side Out, Another You (1991), Super Mario Bros, Any Given Sunday (1999), and Seabiscuit.
In 1988, Russo was responsible for the homicide that occurred inside a Las Vegas nightclub. He was attacked with a broken champagne bottle by another patron when he tried to stop him from harassing a female customer. Russo, who was authorized to carry a firearm, pulled out his weapon and shot the man in the head. The individual was a Cuban national in his 30s. The Nevada District Attorney’s Office determined that Russo’s actions were justified and so did not press charges against him in connection with the killing.
In addition to that, Russo is a vocalist. Reflections is the name of a tribute CD that he issued in 2004 and it pays respect to both Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra. Gianni Russo Wines was first introduced to the market in 2009 and is owned by Russo. His autobiography, titled Hollywood Godfather: My Life in the Movies and the Mob, was released in 2019.
