Enquiring Minds, Gangsta Boo’s debut album as a solo artist, was released in 1998 and debuted at number 15 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums list. It also debuted at number 46 on the Billboard 200 album chart. The song “Where Dem Dollas At!?” turned out to be an unexpected smash for the album.
The 7th of August, 1979 found Lola Chantrelle Mitchell being brought into the world in the Whitehaven neighborhood of Memphis, Tennessee. She claimed that despite coming from a family of a middle-class background, her family eventually “moved to the hood” after her parents got a divorce. She probably began rapping when she was around 14 years old.
Gangsta Boo was featured on Three 6 Mafia’s debut album, Mystic Stylez, which was released in 1995. Gangsta Boo also continued to collaborate with the group for a total of five additional albums when DJ Paul of Three 6 Mafia discovered him. In the end, she decided to pursue her solo career and quit the group in 2001 to do so.
She became a member of the Three 6 Mafia spin-off group Da Mafia 6ix in 2013, and she played a big role on the first mixtape 6ix Commandments that the group released. 2014 marked the year when she parted ways with the group.
Both Worlds *69 (2001), her second album, debuted at number 8 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart and at number 29 on the Billboard 200. Her third studio album, titled Enquiring Minds II: The Soap Opera, was published by her in the year 2003. The album reached its highest position on the Independent Albums chart at number 24, while it peaked at number 53 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart.
2009 saw the release of Gangsta Boo’s third mixtape, titled “The Rumors” (following her previous mixtapes Street Ringers Vol. 1 and Still Gangsta). In addition, she collaborated with DJ Fletch on the production of two mixtapes, titled Miss.Com (No DJ Version on iTunes) and 4 Da Hood. Forever Gangsta was the name of the mixtape that she and Trap-A-Holics released together on June 27, 2011. During the same year, she worked on the song “Throw It Up” alongside Yelawolf and Eminem.
The extended play Witch, which featured La Chat as a collaborator, was made available for purchase on May 27, 2014. Underground Cassette Tape Music, Vol. 1 was a mixtape that was released on October 14, 2014 and was a collaboration between Gangsta Boo and BeatKing. In 2018, a follow-up mixtape with the same name as its predecessor, dubbed Underground Cassette Tape Music, Vol. 2, was made available.
Gangsta Boo had an appearance on the song “Love Again (Akinyele Back)” by Run the Jewels, which was included on their album Run the Jewels 2 in 2014, and made another appearance on the song “Walking in the Snow” by Run the Jewels, which was included on their album RTJ4 in 2020. On the song “FTCU” by rapper Latto, which was released in 2022, she was featured in the same year alongside GloRilla. She was in the process of putting the finishing touches on an album that she intended to call The BooPrint when she passed away.
On January 1, 2023, at the age of 43, Mitchell’s body was discovered unresponsive at her residence in Memphis, Tennessee. It was not immediately clear what brought to the person’s passing.
According to the statements made by the police, there was no evidence of any criminal activity. According to sources close to Mitchell, who spoke with TMZ, she spent the previous night partying with her brother, who subsequently died of an overdose after consuming cocaine that was (unbeknownst to him) laced with fentanyl. Mitchell was also present at the party. Mitchell is said to have consumed the same batch of cocaine a few hours later, but she overdosed and died from it, despite the fact that her brother was able to recover and be discharged from the hospital.
