Who Is Darrell Miklos
Darrell Miklos was raised in a family that has had a long history of successful underwater recoveries. As a child, Miklos and his sister helped their father collect pieces of eight along the Treasure Coast shoreline for their dad, who had met Kip Wagner (famous for discovering the locations of the wrecks of the 1715 Fleet).
As of 2020, Miklos’ net worth is estimated to be about $1.5 million but it could grow instantly if he were to find hidden treasures on the seabed.
How did Darrell Miklos get rich?
Miklos first met Astronaut Gordon Cooper through his father, who worked closely with Wagner’s Reale Eight Corporation and had a passion for shipwreck discovery. Miklos and Cooper developed a close personal relationship.
The first shipwreck Miklos pursued with his father was the Nuestra Señora de Atocha of the 1622 Spanish Fleet near the Marquesas Keys in 1979 and 1980. In 1997, Miklos worked closely with Astronaut Cooper on a recovery project in the Bahamas, and later on several other projects. The two have also gone on expeditions to ancient Mayan ruins in the Yucatan and Campeche, Mexico, and Caribbean shipwreck exploration.
After Cooper’s death in 2004, Miklos has continued to pay homage to Cooper’s legacy by pursuing his passion for historic shipwreck discovery. He has several promising projects in the works.
Cooper’s Treasure, hosted by Miklos for the Discovery Channel was co-produced by Ample Entertainment and Amblin Entertainment, a Steven Spielberg company. It ran for 2 seasons from 2017. A third season is reportedly still in the works.
Miklos was a close friend of astronaut Gordon Cooper who noticed several dark spots in the ocean while he was in orbit. He was sure those were shipwrecks and made himself a map. Before he died, he revealed this secret to Darrell who is now searching through those mysterious sites and believes he is close to finding a large valuable treasure, maybe even a part of Christopher Columbus’ fleet.
He co-founded Gemini Marine Exploration in November 2014 in order to recover precious cargo and artifacts from those alleged sunken ships. The story behind all of this surely sounds interesting. But will Miklos really really find some sunken treasure?
