In 1983 her mother participated in the Girl of the Year amateur modeling competition hosted by The Sunday People newspaper by entering a number of images that she had shot of her daughter (Samantha Fox) posing in lingerie. She finished in second place out of 20,000 people who entered the competition, and the images led to her being noticed by the newspaper The Sun, which requested her to pose for Page 3 of the paper. She came in second place.
Fox was the eldest child of actress Carole Ann Wilken and actor John Patrick Fox. She was born on April 15, 1966 in Mile End, which is located in East London. She is related to two other people through her father’s second marriage: Vanessa, her sister, and Frederica and Frankie, her half-siblings. Fox comes from a long line of merchants in the family.
Fox released her very first song in 1983, when she was only 16 years old. Ray Fenwick, who was a member of both the Ian Gillan Band and the Spencer Davis Group, was the one who produced “Rockin’ with My Radio”/”My Old Man” and published it on the Lamborghini Records label. Fenwick was also the one who penned the b-side of the record. The partnership with Fenwick continued into 1984 with her second single, “Aim to Win”/”17 and Holding” which was released under her full name. Fenwick once again produced the record and penned the song that appeared on the flip side.
Her parents gave their permission for her to pose topless, and on February 22, 1983, the Sun published her debut photograph that appeared on Page 3 of the newspaper. She entered into a four-year Page 3 modeling contract with the Sun, and she won the Sun’s “Page 3 Girl of the Year” title for three years in a row, beginning in 1984 and continuing through 1986.
She was one of the most photographed British ladies of the 1980s and is known now as the era’s most famous pin-up girl. She was also one of the most photographed celebrities of the era. In the late 1980s, Fox was used in television commercials for a car dealership network centered in Leicestershire with the motto “Follow the Fox to Swithland Motors” The advertising were broadcasted on television. She also made an appearance at around the same time in television advertising for bingo that were published in The Sun newspaper.
Fox’s career was managed by her father Patrick, a former carpenter, until 1991. At that time, she engaged accountants to investigate her suspicions that he had stolen more than £1 million (or around £2.3 million in today’s currency) from her accounts. She filed a lawsuit against her father, who by that time had already been divorced and remarried, and in May 1995, the court gave her a court settlement worth £363,000 (equivalent to £0.7 million today). When Patrick Fox passed away in the year 2000, they had not communicated with one another for about ten years at that point.
She was 29 years old at the time and made a one-time appearance in The Sun in 1995 to mark the 25th anniversary of Page 3. She was featured in the slot each day that week after receiving an extremely favorable response from the readers, with the topless picture from her final appearance on Friday being given away as a poster measuring A3 in size. The edition of Playboy magazine that was published in October of the following year featured her.
In 2008, Fox and her companion Myra Stratton participated in the reality show Celebrity Wife Swap. They traded places with Freddie Starr and his wife Donna during the course of the competition. She appeared on the ITV show “I am a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!” in November 2009, but she was eliminated on day 16 of the competition. She was a guest on an episode of Come Dine with Me starring celebrities in 2010, which also featured Calum Best, Janice Dickinson, and Jeff Brazier. In 2016, Fox competed on the 18th season of the reality television show Celebrity Big Brother and finished in seventh place, narrowly missing out on a spot in the competition’s final three.
After that, Fox started a romantic relationship with her Norwegian tour manager Linda Birgitte Olsen. Olsen is from from Norway. On Valentine’s Day in the year 2020, Olsen made his proposal, and the pair subsequently announced their engagement. They tied the knot on June 18th, 2022.
