About Tyson Fury

Tyson Luke Fury is a professional heavyweight boxer and two-time world champion. Born in the city of Wythenshawe, north of Manchester, UK, Fury descends from an Irish traveler family and was later raised in Styal, a nearby village. Tyson began boxing at the age of 10, and years later, he competed in junior competitions representing both England and Ireland. He spent the majority of his youth in and around the Manchester area and dedicated any spare time he had to the gym, often training for 12 hours a day.

British professional boxer Tyson Fury has a net worth of $45 million dollars, as of 2021. Since defeating Deontay Wilder in Feb 2020, ‘The Gypsy King’ Tyson Fury is the reigning heavyweight boxing champion of the world.

How did Tyson Fury earn his net worth?

Fury is one of the highest paid boxers in the sport thanks to putting on a show and being undefeated for his whole career. Though he had been making hundreds of thousands of dollars per fight all the way through his career and up to 2015, it was after a three year hiatus when Fury signed a deal with ESPN that other boxers could only dream of signing. Instead of just making a deal for one comeback match, fury signed a deal with the company for five fights, which is reported to be worth up to $100 million.

For Fury’s first fight in this deal, fighting Tom Schwarz, the fighter earned around $10 million. It might have been the easiest $10 million he ever made, as he knocked out his opponent in just two rounds. Fury then earned $15 million for his fight against Otto Wallin too. And for his last fight, going up against Deontay Wilder, it is reported that Fury earned over $30 million, and that would have been the case whether the boxer won or lost.

Why is he so famous?

Tyson Fury rose to fame with the help of his ancestors. With a long family history of boxers and bare knuckle fighters, Fury was destined to be in the ring. The Gypsy King,’ as he’s often referred to, is a nickname which was given to him by his fans in his early career. A number of Fury’s cousins are also professional boxers, with some of his more distant relatives known for their skills at bare-knuckle boxing. Tyson’s father, John Fury, is a former professional boxer and was Tyson’s boxing trainer until 2011 before being jailed for assault. Since then, Fury has had a number of different trainers including his uncles, Hughie and Peter Fury.

Soon into his career, Fury was playing at international level and he competed in a ton of events including the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championship in 2006, and the European Junior Championship in 2007. In 2008, he had the opportunity to compete in the Olympics, but despite being ranked third in the world as a junior boxer, Fury was not chosen to represent Great Britain. David Price, one of Tyson’s first rivals, was famously picked for the heavyweight division for the event instead. However, Fury did become the WCB (World Boxing Council) heavyweight champion of the world in 2015. He also achieved the Ring Magazine title for the first time, along with the IBF (International Boxing Federation), IBO (International Boxing Organization), WBA (World Boxing Association) and WBO (World Boxing Organization), which are some of the world’s most recognized titles in professional boxing.

Soon after his success, Tyson slipped into a depression cycle of alcohol and drugs. He was diagnosed with a type of bipolar and struggled to overcome his bad habits for more than 4 months. Tyson said he had suicidal thoughts claiming he “didn’t want to live anymore.” Despite a number of setbacks and a long recovery, Tyson finally got clean and was set to face Deontay Wilder, the WCB heavyweight champion of the world at the time. In 2018, Fury and Wilder stepped into the ring, which resulted in a draw, but it was an event that Fury earned millions of dollars for.

Tyson made a big impression in the boxing world with his sharp dodges and damaging punches, but the shocking comments he has made in the past has angered an audience outside of the boxing world. On social media, he is known to show off his collection of titles and belts. Not only that, but some members of the public have found his previous statements to be racist, sexist, and homophobic. But Tyson blamed the media, claiming that the scrutiny and pressure the media put on Tyson angered him and caused him to act inappropriately. The spotlight that the media put on Tyson was a new type of pressure. He was later deemed crazy’ by the media at the peak of his depression and was criticized for various public outbursts.

What makes him so successful?

Fury is on record as saying that he doesn’t fight for the money, the fame, or for the the glory, but he said he fights simply because he loves it. Though he loves hurting people, he loves getting hurt himself just as much. The fighter says he enjoys getting punched in the face and the taste of his blood. And it’s this animalistic craving that sets Fury apart from the other fighters.

Surprisingly enough, Tyson was born three months prior to the due date and weighing just one pound at birth, and his parents were worried he wouldn’t survive. Furys’ parents named him after the heavyweight champion of the world at the time, Mike Tyson, as Fury was a fighter and fought to stay alive in the first few hours of his life. Now, weighing in at 257lbs and standing high at 6 feet, 9 inches, Tyson Fury is one of the tallest and most intimidating boxers to have ever entered the boxing ring. Boasting 31 fights and 30 victories, Fury has yet to be defeated in the world of professional boxing, and he earned 21 of his wins by KO.

Thanks to his determination and seeming thirst for blood, Tyson Fury remains undefeated and is one of the most recognizable boxers of our generation. With his amazing record of wins, through sponsorship deals, endorsements and huge pay checks for the fights, Fury has a massive net worth of $45 million. After defeating Deontay Wilder in February this year, Fury is once again the WBC heavyweight champion of the world. Fury is set to meet another opponent, Anthony Joshua, at the Royal Albert Hall in London in 2021.
