About Timothy Sykes

Timothy Sykes is a stock trader who famously made $1.65 million trading penny stocks by day while attending Tulane University.

The stock trader is sometimes nicknamed “The Wolf” on Instagram. He is well known for turning his $12,000 mitzvah money into over a million dollars while still attending university. Since then he has built a formidable net worth through his own investing, and with his products and services helping others to invest in the market alongside him.

As of 2023 Timothy Sykes has a net worth of $17 million dollars.

Timothy was born on April 16, 1981, in Orange, Connecticut. He holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and business from Tulane University. While pursuing his degree, Sykes skipped classes often to day-trade in penny stocks.

In 2003, he founded Cilantro Fund Management, LLC which primarily made money by shorting shares it bought. Skyes was included on Trader Monthly’s “30 Under 30” list of up-and-coming traders in the market in 2006, although the trade journal’s editor apparently came to regret it later as he was initially informed that Cilantro was a  long-short microstock hedge fund.

After his initial success, Skyes tried to repeat his feat of 2003 after the global financial crisis of 2007/2008 by again starting with a capital of $12,000. In his first attempt, it took him four years to turn his mitzvah money of some $12,000 into $1.65 million. At the time of announcing he was going to repeat his feat, he predicted that it would take him 10 years. But as it turned out, it didn’t take him about 10 years. His total earnings from that period from stock trading was a total of approximately $5 million.

Today, Tim is an educator and financial activist. He has launched websites and services which aim to educate the investing public, as well as provide stock information online. Although Tim started investing in penny stocks, he has expanded his training program beyond penny stocks to incorporate investing in more traditional assets.

His websites are not only for profit, as his Profit.Ly is a social trading platform for people to learn and invest in the market. Apart from stock trading and the financial world, Timothy is also a social activist, championing causes like helping children in poorer countries and also in saving animals and preserving natural resources. He has also established the Timothy Skyes Foundation which partners other charities to help causes he believes in.

Tim has had his fair brush with controversy, having called out celebrities for promoting pump and dump schemes. While Tim may have promoted himself a fair bit by making his personal wealth-generating objectives quite public, we know he has a good heart and seems genuine in wanting to help the investing public learn the methodologies that have made him successful.

Tim is married to model Bianca Alexa.
