Thomas Kretschmann was born in Dessau, Germany on September 8, 1962 and is a German actor with an estimated net worth of $9 million. Thomas Kretschmann trained to become an Olympic swimmer before entering the world of acting. Then at 25 years old he launched a successful acting career with appearances in several European films and television series, including Westler in 1985.
Kretschmann was born in East Germany and trained to become an Olympic swimmer. However life was tough and at the age of 19 he decided to escape from East Germany and began a month-long trek to reach West Germany. Kretschmann crossed four borders and three countries (Hungary, Yugoslavia and Austria) with only his passport and the equivalent of $100 in his possession.
Kretschmann began his acting career on stage in Germany in the late 1980s. Since then, he has starred in numerous European films and Television Series.

Now living in Los Angeles, Thomas Kretschmann has three children. A son called Nicolas, another son called Sascha and one daughter called Stella, with his then girlfriend, film producer Lena Roklin. After the couple separated Kretschmann has been in a relationship with Brittany Rice, since 2011.
Kretschmann is perhaps best known to American audiences for his role as Nazi officer Wilm Hosenfeld in Roman Polanski‘s The Pianist. He has also been seen in such films as “U-571,” “Blade 11,” “Resident Evil: Apocalypse,” and “In Enemy Hands.” In addition to film work, Kretschmann has had guest-starring roles on numerous television series including, “Karen Sisco,” and “24.”
Working for the second time with Academy Award winner Adrien Brody, Kretschmann played Captain Englehorn Peter Jackson film, King Kong. He followed these roles with parts in The Celestine Prophecy and Butterfly, A Grim Love Story.
Between 2011–2012, for the ABC original television series The River, a kind of paranormal/adventure/horror series, Kretschmann played the role of Captain Kurt Brynildson. It’s about a group of people on a mission to find a missing TV explorer in the Amazon at got very good reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.
In a big move Kretschmann signed a multi-film contract with Marvel Studios. He was to appear in Captain America: The Winter Soldier playing the role of, Baron Wolfgang von Strucker.
