“You’re looking so composed as you’re staring down your nose at me laughing at the way that I dance. But I just keep on moving while you look on disapproving. I feel sad for you because you never take a chance”
– Ben Lee, What’s so Bad About Feeling Good
The only thing in life that is certain is uncertainty. We really can’t predict how it’s all going to turn out. As a result we learn to roll with the punches, go with the flow and ride a wave in the direction its taking us. But what separates movers and shakers from the ones who just get taken along for the ride is the ability to take a leap of faith.
The only way that any of us will ever live up to our true potential is by taking a leap of faith. There’s no doubt that it’s an uncomfortable road to success and fear, uncertainty and self doubt will continually make appearances even after you’ve taken your leap. You’ll continually be asking yourself if you have what it takes. But it’s only when you let all that go and leap that the real magic will start to happen in your life.
If we were meant for an ordinary life we would not have been blessed with so many extraordinary abilities.
The Net Will Appear
At my graduation from business school the wife of survivor creator Mark Burnett said that “If you leap the net will appear.” Our conditioning for safety is so strong, often to our own detriment. Not being able to see the net will cause most people not to leap. Look both ways before you cross, don’t talk to strangers and all this other nonsense you learn as children, while taught with the best of intentions rarely sets you up for a life without limits. Instead you live your life by playing it safe and avoiding risk.
What If The Net Doesn’t Appear?
Is it is possible that it won’t appear and you’ll fall? Of course. The only thing I can tell you is to get back up, find another take off point and take another leap of faith. You’re bound to make it eventually.
As I once said before, the fear of failure for some people is so strong that they will settle for average over taking the risk of having an extraordinary life. A life without limits and a leap of faith is a journey into the unknown where the future isn’t written and that’s why it’s the only way to find out what you’re really made of.
