Sidney Poitier was born prematurely on a boat from the Bahamas to Miami (where his parents planned to sell tomatoes), however he later moved back to the Bahamas when he was a little child.
Before his family relocated to Nassau when he was a youngster, Poitier lived on Cat Island in the Bahamas. His parents sent him to live with his brother in Miami when he was 16 years old. He eventually relocated to New York City.
Juanita Hardy and Poitier were wed from 1950 till 1965. They had four kids together. In 1976, he wed Joanna Shimkus, and the two of them had two kids.
When he was granted the title role in the Broadway production of “Lysistrata.” Poitier made his stage debut.
