After law school, Pruitt started a solo legal practice in Tulsa named “Christian Legal Services,” which focused on taking on religious liberty cases. He practiced for five years before running for state senate.
In 1998, Pruitt’s political career started when he was elected to the Oklahoma Senate. From 2001 to 2003, he served as the Republican whip., followed by the next three years as the Republican Assistant Floor Leader. Until his election as the Attorney General of Oklahoma, he worked as the managing general partner of the Oklahoma RedHawks baseball team, being their co-owner.
