Rosie Perez became world famous when she became a co-host on the ABC talk show The View during the series’ 18th season. She joined Whoopi Goldberg, Rosie O’Donnell and Nicolle Wallace, and while she had been an actress known for appearances in White Men Can’t Jump and Dance with the Devil, it was The View that made her a household name.
Perez was born in Brooklyn, New York and became a ward of the state when she was a 3-year-old and grew up in foster care until she was 8. She then moved in with relatives but was still considered a ward of the state until she was 12. After that, things began to get brighter for her, she attended Grover Cleveland High School in Queens and began her life in New York.
As she still had a troubled relationship with family members, she has said that dance was an escape for her and a way to express her feelings. When she was young, she enrolled in an instructional dance program for inner city youth.

Fast forward to 2014, and Perez was selected as a new co-host of The View on ABC. The daytime talk show had undergone a complete changeup during the summer of 2013, parting ways with two of its hosts and retaining only one, Whoopi Goldberg. Rosie O’Donnell and Nicolle Wallace completed the new cast.
In 2018, Perez portrayed Tracey Wolfe in the NBC musical drama television series Rise, which ran for one season. She also starred in the 2020 superhero film Birds of Prey, as comic book character Renee Montoya.
Perez is well known for her social activism and charitable contributions. She often focuses on issues important to Puerto Ricans and Puerto Rican rights. She serves as the chair of the artistic board for Urban Arts Partnership, an arts education organization.
