About Ricky Frazier
Frazier was born on July 23, 1964, and his father Roy Frazier was a jockey and later a trainer at Louisiana Downs. Ricky went to Kentucky and got his jockey’s license at Churchill Downs before returning to Louisiana Downs where he got his first win aboard Betty Bob in 1981.
Frazier as ridden all over the country, including Texas where he has been leading rider at Sam Houston and Retama.
He has also ridden in Southern and Northern California, Kentucky and Chicago. He is now based permanently in the Northwest, and earned his third leading riding title at Emerald Downs in 2007. He was also the track’s leading rider in 2004 and 2006. Frazier set a single season record of 157 wins at the recently concluded 2007 Emerald Downs meet and set a record for earnings of $1,632,102.
3000 win Milestone:
Jockey Ricky Frazier had his 3000th career win on November 17, 2007, at Turf Paradise aboard Miller’s Turbo in the Paradise Valley Stakes. He finished second, but an inquiry was called immediately and the winner was taken down and Miller’s Turbo given the win. Frazier said, “I hate to get my milestone win that way, but I’ll take a stakes victory any which way.”
Making the Big Time:
In 2007 Frazier had his first Breeders’ Cup mount with Washington-bred Smarty Deb, who finished 5th in the Juvenile Fillies. He also won the Favorite Trick Breeders’ Cup Stakes on the Friday undercard.
In the Movies:
Frazier was Toby Maguire’s stunt double in the movie “Seabiscuit” and also had a small stunt role in “Spider-Man 2” which also starred Maguire.
Frazier has three children: Ryan, Dylan and Victoria, and is currently engaged to be married.
