About Rick Rubin
Rick Rubin is an American record producer, and was formerly co-President of Columbia Records. He has been acclaimed as among those who popularized hip hop music. Rick was born in Long Beach, New York in 1963. He was a student at Long Beach High School, where one of the members of staff gave him some guitar lessons and a few hints about songwriting. He played in a band with some of his school friends, until another member of the staff at high school helped him create a punk band that went by the name The Pricks.
The band craved attention and masterminded a brawl with hecklers in the audience at one of their concerts in Manhattan.. They got thrown off stage but the desired result had been achieved. The excitement surrounding the incident got them noticed.

Rick Rubin produced albums for artists that wereto be released on different labels, the most notable probably being his association with the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Between 1991 and 2011 he produced six studios albums for them. Six Grammy wins followed including Producer of the Year in 2007.
Rick has produced albums and singles for a range of other artists, including Mick Jagger, Donovan, Tom Petty, Metallica, and Jay-Z. He became co-President of Columbia Records in 2007 and while there produced albums for Linkin Park, Neil Diamond, Weezer and Adele. Rick Rubin stayed with Columbia until 2012, when he left to re-establish American Recordings. He was able to release albums by ZZ Top and The Avett Brothers to launch the revived label.

Jazzy Jay introduced Rick to Russell Simmons, and he helped Rick to relaunch Def Jam Records, but now with no input from Jazzy Jay. Their first release as a relaunched label was I Need a Beat by LL Cool J.
Rick continued to seek rappers and hip hop acts around New York, He signed Public Enemy and diverted the Beastie Boys towards hip hop and away from punk. Rick had already done some innovative production work with Run-DMC and he quickly acquiesced to Sue Cummings of Spin magazine’s idea of getting Run-DMC and Aerosmith to collaborate on a recording of Aerosmith’s Walk This Way.
This track not only invigorated Aerosmith’s career, it also marked the start of mainstream popularity for the rap hard rock mix. Rick also launched his link with heavy metal by producing the Slayer classic album Reign in Blood.
