About Rick Ross

Rick Ross, whose real name is William Leonard Roberts II, is a rapper, songwriter, record executive, and entrepreneur. However, he endured many hardships throughout his rapping and producing career, including run ins with the police and a feud with one of the best known rappers of all time. Through all of his difficulties, this is how Rick Ross became the respected artist we all know him as today.

As of 2020, Rick Ross has an estimated net worth of $43 million dollars.

What makes him so successful?

Rick Ross’s success has come from his rapping style and skills in MCing and the producing world. He worked diligently with many other popular artists, which helped to boost his own popularity and fame. His music talent was what truly enabled him to become an incredibly respected artist and figure in the music industry. And, despite the controversies he has been in, he continues to release music and build upon his fame, and will likely continue to do so for years to come.

How did Rick Ross get so rich?

Throughout his career Rick Ross has made a lot of money adding up to his net worth of approximately $43 million dollars US. His fortune comes almost exclusively from his music career, though this isn’t by choice. Rick lost an endorsement from a major company over controversial lyrics, leaving him with only his career to rely on.

Rick has come out with ten studio albums between the years of 2006 and 2019. These albums, called Port of Miami, Trilla, Deeper Than Rap, Teflon Don, God Forgives, I Don’t, Mastermind, Hood Billionaire, Black Market, Rather You Than Me, and his most recent album, Port of Miami 2, are to thank for his sizeable riches.

He has also released plenty of singles, many of which landed on the Billboard charts and became commercially successful. The only major company he has ever had an endorsement deal with is the infamous footwear and apparel brand Reebok. However, they released him as their celebrity representative when he was criticized heavily for lyrics that were perceived as condoning or describing rape. Despite his apologies and assurances that this wasn’t what the song was referring to, Reebok was still forced to end their deal with him.

Though this isn’t entirely by choice, Rick Ross’s financial success can be attributed almost exclusively to his music career. Though he was involved in a deal with a large company, they were forced to end it, leaving him to rely solely upon his commercial success in the music industry. However, Rick has still managed to profit greatly from his music career and achieve a tremendous fortune.

Why is he so famous?

Rick Ross started his career signed to the record label Suave House Records, and was known by “Teflon Da Don” for his early years and debut. He changed his name to Rick Ross in the mid-2000s. Though he has no connection to the figure, Rick Ross named himself after a former drug kingpin who was also named Rick Ross, though he often went by the nickname “Freeway.”

After being signed to Suave House Records, he eventually signed a deal with another label, called Slip-n-Slide Records. While signed to his new label, Rick went on tour with a fellow rapper, called Trick Daddy, and also appeared on other albums produced by the label.

Rick’s debut album was released in 2006, titled Port of Miami. Port of Miami debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 album chart and achieved sales of nearly 200,000 records within the first week. He was acclaimed for this album, and later went on to make guest appearances in two singles from DJ Khaled’s debut album. Rick’s second album, Trilla, was released in 2008, and followed his first in debuting at the top of the Billboard 200 album chart.

Though he made breakthroughs with his first and second albums that helped him gain attention and a following, from 2010 to 2013 was when Rick Ross truly blew up. He did work on singles and mixtapes with various other artists, including Ne-Yo, Kanye West, Usher, Dr. Dre, and Jay-Z. He was named “Hottest MC in the Game” in early 2012, and became a well respected artist.

Rick Ross was also heavily publicized and became better known by his very public and longstanding feud with 50 Cent, one of the best known rappers of all time. Though the attention wasn’t always positive, Rick’s diss tracks and opinions of 50 Cent made him better known.
Though he was producing music from the beginning, it was his great work with other notable artists and skills as an MC that made Rick Ross into the artist and rapper we all know him as today. Though it didn’t do much to bolster his career, Rick’s incredibly long standing feud with the rapper 50 Cent also helped him to become more famous. Through controversy and his work as an MC and rapper, Rick has been able to become an incredibly well respected artist.

  1. The thing about Rick Ross is that he is so central to the rap scene almost all up and coming rappers want to collaborate with him and he has done just about more collaborations than any other rapper. Yet his net worth is still low considering the value he’s been putting out. And he’s been putting it out FOR YEARS. Time to get paid.
