18 Of The Worst Additions To A Real Housewives Franchise

Every reality TV fan knows that the Real Housewives series is one of the most iconic in the genre. With a number of shows set in various locations around the country (and the world, hey Melbourne!), the series is always entertaining television. That entertainment factor would be nothing if it wasn’t for the titular Housewives, obviously. Some of the Housewives, specifically ones who were added to the series at one point or another, are definitely better than others. It takes a special kind of reality star to be entertaining, prone to drama, and likable, ya know?

The following Housewives additions just didn’t live up to that standard during their (sometimes incredibly brief) stints on the series. It’s no wonder why all of these ladies didn’t last long on their respective series, TBH.

Siggy – Real Housewives of New Jersey

Siggy Flicker is kind of funny at times, but she’s mostly just annoying. How in the world can anyone be so mad about a freakin’ ruined cake? It’s unbelievable how she was able to drag that ridiculous drama out for almost an entire season. That whole cake situation also paved the way for some really stupid feuds. Siggy and Margaret couldn’t seem to squash their beef at all. And Siggy embarrassed the hell out of Melissa when she called her out for ruining the cake in front of an entire party full of people.

While Siggy may be one of the worst Housewives additions, at least she’s not returning for another season of RHONJ. Lucky us!

Jules – Real Housewives of New York City

Jules Wainstein, who? Yeah, same. She was just another one and done Housewife on the Real Housewives of New York City. There’s… really not all that much to say about her really except that she did put on a brave face as she discussed her battle with her eating disorders. And it was nice to see the Housewife open up about such an important issue.

However, Jules never found her place amongst the strong RHONY personalities. She kinda got along with Dorinda. But, ultimately, she just didn’t jive with anyone else, which doesn’t make for an interesting dynamic for viewers. She even got into tiffs with head honcho Bethenny. And anyone who watches RHONY knows that it’s not wise to start any kind of dramz with Bethenny.

Eileen – Real Housewives of Beverly Hills

First of all, Eileen Davidson was never totally terrible on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. She was often the voice of reason during some intense fights, had flawless fashion sense, and was accomplished in her role on The Young and the Restless. So, it’s not like she was the worst of the worst, exactly.

But, it was almost like she was too put together to be on RHOBH. Eileen seemed totally secure in herself and, consequently, didn’t see the need to start too much drama at times. She was almost like fellow RHOBH star Lisa Vanderpump, with all of the class but with an absence of the drama-stirring gene. And that doesn’t make for a very successful Housewife.

Alexis – Real Housewives of Orange County

Alexis Bellino got into her fair share of drama when she was on the Real Housewives of Orange County. But, that’s not why she’s one of the worst additions to a Housewives franchise. She’s one of the worst because she displayed just how ignorant she was on the show when it comes to the LGBT community. When she discussed Tamra’s friend Fernanda Rocha and her wife in the series in 2011, she said that the two would “unfortunately have to talk to God when they get to Heaven’s gate.” It was a completely unacceptable comment. She later apologized and insisted that she was not homophobic and that she had many gay friends. …OK.

However, her disgusting comments were probably not quickly forgotten by a good amount of RHOC viewers anytime soon. So, it was great news when it was announced that the Housewife would not return to the series for its ninth season. Good riddance, Alexis. You’re not missed.

Teddi – Real Housewives of Beverly Hills

Teddi Mellencamp Arroyave hasn’t been a Housewife for long, but we’re already over her. From the get-go you could tell that she felt as though she was above all of the pettiness and ultra-glam that makes up RHOBH. And, if she thinks that she’s better than everyone because she doesn’t care about high-fashion birthday parties or the over-the-top trips, why did she even agree to be on the show in the first place? That’s what RHOBH is: glamorous drama. And that’s why fans love it.

So, if Teddi doesn’t want to play by the rules, that’s fine, she can leave. It’s not like being a little different is a bad thing, but she’s not even doing her own thing in a semi-interesting way. Her only interesting storyline so far has had to do with a miscommunication with Dorit over a lunch meeting time. That’s not necessarily super high drama. It would not surprise me if Teddi fails to make an RHOBH comeback next season and becomes a short-lived Housewife like all of the others on this list.

Peggy – Real Housewives of Orange County

Peggy Sulahian was ugh-worthy for her entire, brief, time on Real Housewives of Orange County. First of all, she was perpetually rude to Shannon. Sure, Shannon was no peach on season 12 of the show, but that doesn’t excuse Peggy’s baseless elitism. At one point she asked Shannon if she trusted her husband, an obvious dig at the couple’s tumultuous past (David cheated on Shannon, an issue they tried to move forward from). She pretended to say that it was a simple question, but we’re not buying it. Then, she got into that weird fight with Kelly where she said their husbands should call each other to try and fix their wives’ feud. Um, say what? Talk about weird.

Also, there’s about a 95% chance that she knew every single Americanized reference that her fellow Housewives used and feigned ignorance. But, that’s just our two cents.

Kim – Real Housewives of Atlanta

Kim Fields is, undeniably, an icon in the pop culture world. Outside of her one season stint on the Real Housewives of Atlanta, she previously made a name for herself on Facts of Life and Living Single. However, those television successes didn’t translate into an exciting RHOA run, that’s for sure.

There was nothing particularly bad about Kim, per se. It’s just that she never quite fit in on the show or even made her mark in any kind of major way. You would think that, since she’s an actress, she’d know how to make an entertaining show, you know? She did have that whole feud with Kenya that went on for a while, but that wasn’t enough to keep her from getting a spot on this list.

Heather – Real Housewives of New York City

Heather Thomson tried to pull off that voice of reason role on the Real Housewives of New York City, but it didn’t work. She was too reasonable and level-headed to deal with Ramona and Sonja’s antics. She did get her fair share of the drama, though, such as when she and Bethenny got into a tiff that led the Skinnygirl owner to dunk her in the ocean. However, all of this wasn’t enough to keep her from being merely a blip on the RHONY radar.

Like, does anyone even remember that she was on the show? She was boring. And when you’re put up against personalities like Sonja, Luann, and even Carole, you have to have a little excitement factor (or a knack for hilarious banter). Heather just didn’t have it.

Lydia – Real Housewives of Orange County

Lydia McLaughlin was fine when she appeared on season 12 of Real Housewives of Orange County. She had the whole innocent sparkle thing going on in addition to her fun antics with her wacky mom. But, ever since she returned to the series (and for only one season, it appears), she’s been a total mess. Her worst moment came when she attended a drag bingo event with her fellow Housewives, where she wasn’t exactly a good sport about the whole thing. To set the scene, all of the Housewives dressed in drag for the event, even though no one else was going to. And then Lydia, quite inexplicably, figured that she would dress in drag… as some kind of Charlie Chaplin lookalike. It was bad.

Lydia wasn’t into the whole vibe of the place and angered a decent number of viewers with her perceived ignorance. She maintained that she wasn’t ignorant on the season’s reunion. But, it’s probably good news that she’s not planning on returning to the series, lest she annoy and offend anyone else.

Teresa Aprea – Real Housewives of New Jersey

Oh Teresa Aprea a.k.a the less exciting and more annoying RHONJ Teresa (after Giudice, of course). Aprea and her twin Nicole tried to stir up some drama during their brief time on the reality series, but it just didn’t work. Well, it was drama-filled, but viewers could have done without Aprea, honestly.

Like many of the other one-seasoners on this list, Aprea failed to make her mark on the show in any kind of entertaining way. And besides her lack of drama and general fun on the show, she was also not exactly a joy to watch. You don’t mess with OG Housewife Teresa Giudice (who could forget that “clink clink” moment from Aprea about Giudice’s jail time) and expect to capture viewers’ affections. Sorry not sorry, Aprea.

Kristen – Real Housewives of New York City

Kristen Taekman is another one of those new Housewives who seemed to head into her new world with the mindset that she was already better than her costars. Newsflash Kristen, you weren’t. In fact, the model was infinitely more boring than her exciting Real Housewives of New York City counterparts like Bethenny and Sonja. The only time she was even entertaining on the show at all was when she got into many, many fights with Ramona. But even then, that entertainment factor is mostly due to Ramona’s antics and not Kristen’s.

Kristen eventually admitted, after she left the show, that she was “too normal” for it, in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. We’ll take her word for it. She was indeed “too normal” a.k.a. too boring for RHONY.

Carlton – Real Housewives of Beverly Hills

Carlton Gebbia was definitely… different… from all other Housewives before her. You would think that that would prevent her from being a poor Housewife addition, but nope. Her schtick got old pretty fast. Carlton could have been a great addition to the RHOBH cast. Her Wiccan lifestyle was a welcome difference in the reality TV landscape. It was even insinuated at one point that Carlton’s witchcraft might have had a negative affect on Joyce’s husband, but the jury’s still out on that. Unfortunately, Carlton just didn’t seem to find her place within the group and was canned after only one season on the show.

Claudia – Real Housewives of Atlanta

Claudia Jordan definitely brought some drama to the Real Housewives of Atlanta. No one can fault her for that. She mostly got into some intense issues with NeNe. And everyone knows that you only cross NeNe if you’re looking to get a verbal beatdown.

Listen, we’re always here for the drama. That’s what makes reality TV great, after all. But, anyone who finds themselves on NeNe’s bad side is likely to find themselves on the viewers’ bad sides too. And it’s been reported that this exact feud is what led to Claudia being fired after her season 7 stint. Well, it’s not exactly a major loss. RHOA is doing just fine without her.

Joyce – Real Housewives of Beverly Hills

Joyce Giraud had fabulous hair, seemed nice and… that’s about it. The former beauty queen got into many a tiff with fellow Housewife Brandi over Brandi’s own alleged racist remarks during a pool party. Brandi later insisted that she was not racist and apologized for her remarks on an episode of Watch What Happens Live.

Other than that drama, Joyce didn’t make her mark on the show, like many of the other Housewives here. She seemed like she had a really kind soul and didn’t get into nearly enough drama as a result of that. It’s no surprise that she only lasted one season on RHOBH.

Kathryn – Real Housewives of Beverly Hills

Kathryn Edwards was a one-note Housewife if there ever was one. She also only lasted one season on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, so it’s not like she made any major waves. Her main point of conflict involved Faye, who wasn’t eve a full-fledged Housewife. Faye alleged in her book Nicole Brown Simpson: The Private Diary of a Life Interrupted that Kathryn’s ex-husband had an affair with Nicole. Obviously, since this was a big accusation, Kathryn and Faye didn’t get along very well.

Other than that, there was nothing incredibly captivating about Kathryn. It was almost as though she was cast for that minor amount of drama with Faye alone because she certainly didn’t bring the entertainment after that.

Lizzie – Real Housewives of Orange County

It’s hard to shine on the Real Housewives of Orange County when there are personalities like Tamra and Vicki around, but others have managed to do it. Lizzie Rovsek never did. In fact, her most major moments on the series came when she was fighting with her fellow Housewives for blowing off her birthday and her countless fights with Tamra. If your biggest source of drama stems from the Housewives blowing off your birthday, it’s safe to say that you’re not exactly bringing a ton of excitement to the show. That’s the kind of drama you’d see in a kindergarten class, not top-tier Housewives material.

Faye – Real Housewives of Beverly Hills

Sure, Faye Resnick isn’t a full-fledged Housewife. You almost wouldn’t know it, though. She always manages to find her way onto the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills as one of Kyle’s friends. But, honestly, it’s enough. We don’t need to see Faye anymore or her desperate attempts at becoming a full-time Housewife by fighting with Kathryn and Brandi. Seriously, anytime she’s on RHOBH, you know some kind of irrelevant tiff is about to happen just so she can have her ten minutes.

Hey, maybe we’re just burnt out on Faye because she’s managed to find her way onto not only RHOBH but Keeping Up With the Kardashians as well as one of Kris Jenner’s friends. Just… go away, Faye. Please.

Aviva – Real Housewives of New York City

Aviva Drescher was straight up annoying. She never played by the rules on the show, especially when it came to the classic vacations that the Housewives always go on. She couldn’t even go on their tropical girls vacay without bringing her husband. Then, when the other Housewives got slightly annoyed by that, she responded by calling Ramona and Sonja “white trash.” It wasn’t cool and wasn’t a good look for Aviva.

However, I guess she wasn’t a completely horrible addition to the series. But, that’s only because of one instantly iconic moment. In season 6, in one of the most memorable moments in reality TV history, Aviva, in a fit of rage, threw her prosthetic leg in the middle of a party. If we were judging her by that one moment alone, she’d instantly be deemed a great addition. Alas, the rest of her annoying time on RHONY just can’t be overlooked.
