About Philip Rivers
Philip Michael Rivers is an American football player. Presently, he’s a quarterback for the team Indianapolis Colts of the NFL (National Football League). He first started playing when he was in college (at the North Carolina State). Ever since he was drafted as part of the 2004 NFL Draft, he has been one of the most popular and winning football quarterbacks in the NFL. During the past two decades, he has achieved a lot of awards including “ACC Rookie, Player, and Athlete of the Year” awards from 2000 to 2004, followed by numerous NFL achievements.
How did Philip Rivers earn his net worth?
Being part of the NFL has helped Philip Rivers become a millionaire. During his freshman years in the early 2000s, Rivers continued to make a name for himself and rack up victories. In 2000, as a freshman, he led the NC Slate to the 8-4 record and contributed to the team’s win at the MicronPC Bowl against Minnesota. That year, while he was slowly earning more than $2.500, he also won the award “ACC Rookie of the Year” (ACC being the Atlantic Coast Conference).
By the end of 2003, Rivers had very impressive statistics such as 13,484 passing yards, 1,710 attempted passes and 1,087 completed passes. The following year, he was projected to be one of the early picks in the 2004 NFL Draft, however, despite his remarkable accuracy and record of success in college, he was one of the mid-card picks. He was one of the 17 quarterbacks taken in the draft and was eventually picked by the San Diego Chargers. In August 2004, he officially signed with the team, a six-year contract worth $40.5 million, which also included $14.5 in signing bonuses.
Why is he so famous?
The quarterback became famous after he joined the San Diego / Los Angeles Chargers in 2004. He was born on December 8, 1981, in Decatur, Alabama. His father, Steve, was a head coach for the Decatur High School’s football team, while his mother, Joan, worked as a teacher there. Philip spent just a few years in that school and then moved to Athens, Alabama. When he was in fifth grade, he already had the aspirations to become a professional football player.
He first began playing in 1994 when he was in seventh grade. A few years later, during his senior season, Philip already established himself as the best prep-passer in the entire state. He received offers to join Alabama and Auburn, however, he declined them both as neither projected him to start as a quarterback. He was then recruited by the North Carolina State College as a quarterback and slowly began his professional career. After he graduated from the Athens High School in 1999, he enrolled at the North Carolina State University.
What makes him so successful?
The success of Rivers comes from his association with highly-praised teams such as the San Diego (now known as Los Angeles) Chargers and Indianapolis Colts. Since he signed the multi-million dollar contract with the Chargers, Rivers has achieved a lot. He has constantly upgraded his abilities in the past 15 years during his time with the team. While he was part of the San Diego team, he also won multiple AAC and NFL awards.
In 2019, Philip announced that after this season, he would be moving on to another team. In February 2020, he officially cut ties with the team and became a free agent. Just a few weeks later, in March, he signed a one-year contract worth $25 million with the Indianapolis Colts team. His first game with the Colts occurred in September, and he finished the game with 363 passing yards, two interceptions, and one touchdown. Overall, as of November, the quarterback has played more than 230 games, completed 4,996 passes, attempted 7,712 passes, and passed 60,255 yards.
