About Nikki Sixx

In 1958, a rockstar was born. Frank Carlton Serafino Feranna Jr. would go on to take the alternative music industry by storm with his raw music talents, gripping battle against addiction, and stylish clothing line.

Better known as Nikki Sixx, his childhood proves as a great example that we can be so much more than where we came from. Early in life, Sixx lost his father. Closely followed with the abandonment by his mother, Sixx was raised primarily by his grandparents. Labeled a problem child in school, Sixx found himself in all kinds of trouble. His expulsion led to his grandparents sending him away to Seattle, where he began living with his mother.

American musician, songwriter, radio host, and photographer, Nikki Sixx has an estimated net worth of $40 million dollars, as of 2023. Sixx is best known as the co-founder, bassist, and primary songwriter of the band Mötley Crüe.

Sixx’s journey to Washington, the Evergreen State was short lived and he ended up traveling to Los Angeles where he lived by himself at the young age of seventeen. In California, Nikki was working side jobs while auditioning for various bands around town. He busted tables, painted and did just about anything he could to earn some money. His hard work soon paid off as he joined forces with the band Sister. His claim to fame was short lived however and Sixx was fired after the band recorded their first demo soundtrack.

Fast forward to 1981, six years after his first casting, Sixx co-founded Mötley Crüe with drummer Tommy Lee, lead guitarist Mick Mars and lead singer Vince Neil. The band released their first album Too Fast For Love to their very own label. Shortly after, Crüe was signed with Elektra Records , re-released their debut album. It wasn’t until the band released their second album titled Shout At The Devil that their fame skyrocketed. The treasures that came along with Mötley Crüe and his presence lasted long after; but so did his struggles.

In 1987, Crüe had just released their fourth studio album. What seemed to be the highlight of the bands career ended up being the peak of destruction for their bassist. In December of that same year, Sixx overdosed on heroin and was declared dead. The two minutes before he was revived was enough to bring the rockstars world upside down when word of his passing hit the media and it hit hard.

Sixx remained touring with his band and battling addiction on the sides. As you can imagine, his band mates grew more and more aggravated with Sixx, until this and various other stresses caused the band to take a break in 2000. By the time Crüe announced their reunion, Nikki was making a far more exciting announcement. He had found sobriety.

Just like Nikki’s childhood, he didn’t let this road-bump stop his tour bus. Approximately three years passed since Crüe’s historic reunion when Sixx shined light on his side project; Sixx AM. The debut album titled The Heroin Diaries’ was released in August of 2007 as a companion soundtrack to Sixx’s autobiography; The Heroin Diaries: A Year In The Life of a Shattered Rock Star’, which was released a month later. Both the book and album topped out on the charts at #7 , providing Nikki with his second fame boost.

Our rockstar didn’t stop there however. The next years were filled with book signings, tours with both Sixx AM and Mötley Crüe, interviews, movie production for a Netflix original and even a release of his clothing lines; Dragonfly & Royal Underground.

To visit what makes a person successful, I believe we first must ask ourselves how we define success? Depending on your personality, you may say that making lots of money makes you successful. Others may lean towards a career and family life. To me, success isn’t defined by how much you have, but by all the heart you put into what you do. All of these things can be said for Sixx and so much more.

He was successful when he went out on his own as a teenager chasing after his dream. He was successful when he was fired from his first band but still took a chance on his next. He was made successful with endless hours in the recording studio, practicing, touring, and learning. His success with Crüe only paved the way for him to be more successful, as did his addiction.

Sixx was able to tackle a horrible disease that came close to destroying not only his success, but his life and turn that into a story that has helped countless individuals struggling with addiction just as he had.

Success was bred from what Sixx has done as much as it was from who he is. Every bit of his work is filled with passion, soul and pure talent, which is an amazing example of his success story.

Summing-Up

Taking a peek into Sixx’s darker than most childhood and heroin struggles, there is something to be said about a man who comes up against all odds. The level of respect industry wide he has gained in his career can serve as a reminder to all that it is not where we came from, but who we are that matters.

Whether your fandom lies with Mötley Crüe, Sixx AM, his writing skills or even his fashion line; it’s easy to see the triumphs Nikki Sixx has accomplished in his career. Under the belt of our rockstar, there isn’t much that he hasn’t accomplished but that doesn’t mean he plans on giving up his livelihood anytime soon. With rumors circulating about a possible Heroin Diaries’ Tour and Mötley Crüe’s new contract signing, we may just see Sixx in action one more time. There’s no way to know 100% but one thing is for sure, no matter where Sixx decides to take his career from here; he is sure to do so with as much passion, grit and soul he has given fans for over a century.
