Who Is Nicole Polizzi
Tiny, pouf-sporting, self-professed “Guidette” Nicole ‘Snooki’ Polizzi is arguably the most beloved of the Jersey Shore‘s cast of overnight stars. Ironically, Snooki almost became the first person to leave the show after her drunken, over-the-top escapades on their first night together left her alienated from the others.
American-Chilean TV personality Nicole ‘Snooki’ Polizzi has a net worth of $4 million dollars, as of 2020.
See Snooki Make Out
Snooki, who is of Chilean and Italian descent, was born in 1987 in Santiago, Chile and was adopted by Italian-American parents when she was six months old. Growing up in Marlboro, New York, she earned the moniker “Snooki” from a character in the movie Save the Last Dance after she became the first of her friends to make out with a boy in middle school. The nickname followed her as a student in Marlboro High School, where she was a popular cheerleader, and lingers to this day.
After high school, she attended community college where she studied to become a veterinarian technician until she made her reality television debut on MTV’s Is She Really Going out with Him? The 4-foot, 9-inch star appeared on the show, about girls who are dating douchebags, with her then-boyfriend Justin (AKA the “Jerz Pud”) in a 2009 episode.
See Snooki Party
Soon after, she answered an MTV Facebook advertisement looking young Italian-Americans who like to party at the Jersey Shore for a new reality series. It was a decision that changed her life and catapulted her into an overnight sensation along with fellow cast members Jenni ‘JWoww’ Farley, Vinny Guadagnino, Sammi Giancola, Ronnie Ortiz-Magro, Paul ‘DJ Pauly D’ DelVecchio, Michael ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino; and Angelina Pivarnick.
Although Snooki expressed interest in leaving Jersey Shore during her first few episodes, a shocking event occurred during filming that not only re-endeared Snooki to her cast mates, but also unexpectedly helped rocket her to stardom. While shooting in Seaside Heights, a drunken patron in a bar brutally punched Snooki in the face. The hit was so vicious that it was deleted from future showings of the episode. The other cast members rallied around her and the punch became media and water cooler fodder for days.
See Snooki Make Bank
The punch also had a surprising effect on Snooki’s income. The tiny dynamo’s appearance fees reportedly shot from $2,000 an event pre-punch to $10,000 an event after the episode aired. The Jersey Show was also a hit, and the stars, who reportedly made $5,000 an episode for the first season, negotiated a pay raise for the second season to $10,000 an episode and got another boost to $30,000 for the third.
Snooki has become a pop culture staple. Even Barack Obama has made reference to Snooki in a joke at the 2010 White House Press Correspondents dinner, although he later claimed on The View that he had never heard of her. In her free time, Snooki is penning a novel entitled A Shore Thing about a girl looking for love on the boardwalk.
