Okay, confession: Deciding what to wear is sometimes the hardest part of my mornings. I haven’t quite yet mastered the art of mixing and matching striped patterns and feathered textures without looking like a clown. And, every time I decide to spice up my outfit with a cozy knit scarf or a bold chunky belt, I find myself standing in front of the mirror looking much less Carrie Bradshaw than I expected. So, I usually just throw on a sweater and hop into some leggings and call it a day.
While I may not be able to dress like millennial royalty just yet, I do enjoy admiring the outfits worn by my favorite characters who pretty much dress like every day is a fashion show. From Rachel Berry to Buffy Summers, you could probably create a Pinterest board dedicated to all of these characters’ fabulous ‘fits.
16. Blair Waldorf, Gossip Girl
If we could be princesses for a day, we’d certainly need to steal Blair’s closet. Her chic, preppy style practically screams 11 AM brunch and afternoon tea. Even her school uniform is perfectly put together and super posh looking! And, of course, her stylish headbands always perfectly top off her outfits. How she manages to pull off pleated skirts and knee high socks is truly a mystery to all of us.
15. Gabi Diamond, Young & Hungry
Somehow Gabi consistently puts together the perkiest but prettiest outfits that can take her from her day job as a personal chef to evening party-goer at the bar. Her style is definitely super girly with lots of polka dots and floral print, but they suit her cheery choice of bright shades. And don’t even get us started on her shoe collection — three words: Heels. For. Days.
14. Carrie Bradshaw, Sex and the City
When we imagine ourselves as fabulous editors in the glamorous Big Apple (with somehow an unlimited shoe budget and amazing apartment?), we imagine strutting down Fifth Avenue with Carrie’s closet at our disposable. She’s the epitome of powerful, confident fashion with her bold, printed midi skirts and sassy tops. We fall more and more in love with her looks with every one of her fabulous strides in her equally stylish heels or wedges.
13. Hanna Marin, Pretty Little Liars
Okay, we definitely don’t remember our closets being so cool in high school. In fact, we barely had enough time in the morning to decide between our two baggiest knit sweaters, let alone coordinate the perfect outfit with sassy patterns and graceful layers. Also, was it just us or did no one ever wear high heels to class? They’re cute, but something tells us it’s hard to run away from ‘A’ while wearing them.
12. Ashley Davenport, Revenge
You can’t be the event planner for the richest family in the Hamptons and expect to wear pajama pants and baggy sweatshirts! Ashley’s style is usually business chic with her tasteful picks of pencil skirts paired with flowy blouses. And when the party gets going, she’s dressed in sparkly dresses and elegant gowns. We’re surprised she can even run around to fix problems in the heels she wears! That said, she accessorizes like a boss.
11. Rachel Green, Friends
Rachel is another character who’s just so damn good at rocking the preppy look. In fact, we’d be happy if our high school uniforms looked half as nice as her fitted turtlenecks tucked into a plaid mini skirt. I guess a sense of style is a bit of a job requirement for Rachel, who works in the fashion industry after all, but even when she was working as a waitress at Central Perk, her style was on point.
10. Olivia Pope, Scandal
If you’re looking for a wardrobe that screams “I’m fabulous and super busy, so get out of my way,” you’ve come to the right problem solver. Olivia is definitely a pantsuit kind of person, and lucky for us all she found a way to make them look super glamorous and sassy. We’ve honestly started looking at dress pant and blazer combos in a new light thanks to this badass boss. She makes business professional look fashionable, and that’s no easy feat.
9. Liza Miller, Younger
First things first, if you haven’t started watching Younger on TV Land, WTF are you waiting for it? Okay, now that we’ve got that over with… A lot of people on this list are teenagers dressing like full-grown twentysomethings, but in the case of Liza Miller, it’s kind of the reverse. She’s actually in her 40s dressing like she’s 20 years younger to keep up a ruse with her job that she’s a recent college grad and not a mother and recent divorcée looking to get back into the industry she left decades ago. It looks like all that studying up on the life of a millennial paid off, because Liza has got style. Her BFF, played by Hilary Duff, also has a pretty amazing fashion sense, as well, but Liza’s OOTDs always impress.
8. Jessica Day, New Girl
Nerdy has never looked cuter! We love Jessica’s layered collared tops and sweaters. We can totally see ourselves wearing something like this for a casual coffee date in the city or to the office. Not to mention the fact that her bright dresses always make us feel like we’re looking at a big pocket full of sunshine. Jessica makes us think we could actually ditch our contact lenses and rock bigger glasses for a day.
7. Rachel Berry, Glee
We never thought we’d fall in love with the middle school uniform style — checkered sweaters and skirts with knee-high socks remind us of awkward, even more fashionably-challenged times — but Rachel seriously rocks the look with ease. Sure, she puts a sexy spin on the lewk, but still… Her style screams intelligent and stylish, and we’d actually be willing to throw away everything we thought we knew about pleated skirts, slip-on shoes, and beanies, to give her looks a shot.
6. Claire Underwood, House of Cards
There’s just something about Claire’s wardrobe that gives off those awesome First Lady vibes. Her professional wardrobe choices are very unique – from puff sleeve tops to elegant blazers draped over her shoulders. If you walked into an interview wearing anything from her closet, the hiring manager just might give you the job based on looks alone! That said, her style doesn’t exactly scream “casual,” so save her as your inspiration for professional special occasions.
5. Miley Stewart, Hannah Montana Forever
Miley had the kind of closet that could make all the high school girls cry with jealousy. Her style evolved so much on the show and we’re seriously impressed. (FYI, we aren’t talking about her Hannah Montana outfits… those were a little OTT.) Her casual looks have lots of well-thought out layers to them, and they’re actually high school hallway-friendly — no breaking your ankles in five-inch heels like the girls of Pretty Little Liars!
4. Sophia Marlowe, Girlboss
Sophia did open up her own vintage clothing business by the end of the season, so it’s a bit obvious that her style wouldn’t be anything less than unique, perfectly curated, and totally drool-worthy. Also, bonus points because she’s based off of the real-life Sophia Amoruso who actually owns the Nasty Gal clothing company! We don’t think we’re pro enough to pick the best of the best like Sophia is, so we’ll just let her do all the picking and we’ll do the shopping.
3. Kat Edison, The Bold Type
Calling all magazine assistants and interns: this is the closet you’ve been coveting for years! Kat is a social media director at a prestigious millennial magazine, so of course you’d expect her to be insanely stylish and fashion-forward. She pairs interesting prints and patterns flawlessly while still looking super professional. We’re definitely going to take a page out of her book for our next internship. Her friends have great fashion, too, but Kat stole the crown.
2. Buffy Summers, Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Any ’90s kid knows that Sunnydale’s very own was an OG style icon. Her mini skirts, that leather jacket that somehow paired perfectly with everything, enough cheetah print to last a lifetime — Buffy’s style was on lock. Whether she was going for a sexy night out at the Bronze or just rocking the hallway like a runway, very few of Miss Summers’s outfits were misses. Her BFF, Willow, on the other hand… we can’t quite say the same thing about her fashion sense. (All love, though!)
1. Cheryl Blossom, Riverdale
We’ll just go ahead and crown Cheryl the queen of being best dressed at Riverdale High. In fact, we’re pretty sure there’s a yearbook superlative for that. There’s a kind of formal touch to her outfits that makes them so elegant you’d think she were getting ready to host a dinner party or something. She’s probably the only character we know who can pull off white-on-white, or red-on-red. Not to mention the fact that her outfits actually use some pretty basic elements, which means you don’t have to splurge on a $200 top when you can buy the same one for $30!
