He had his first prominent performance on the Baby Blue Soundcrew song “Love Em All” which was up for Best Video at the 2001 Much Music Awards. He issued the BlackOut Movement-infused tune “I Did You Wrong.” in 2003. Despite having an upbeat, radio-ready vibe, the song didn’t do well on the charts. But it left enough of an impression on the business to secure Mims a spot on a tour with Method Man.
I’m Hot Because of This
After creating his own American King Music label, Mims produced the independently released hit song “This Is Why I’m Hot.” which became a success. The song combines elements from several subgenres into a memorable, anthemic composition.
After “This Is Why I’m Hot,” became widely popular, Mims quickly became a source of conflict for major record labels. He chose EMI Capitol Records in the end.
