About Mick Mars
Mick Mars is an American born musician that is known for different genres such as; heavy metal, hard rock and blues rock. He is the lead guitarist and co-founder of the band Motley Crue. He was born as Robert Alan Deal but later changed his name to Mick Mars to reinvent himself. Mick Mars was born in Indiana but later his family relocated to California.
Motley Crue rose to fame in the United States after playing at the US Festival in 1983 and thanks to MTV even more people were able to see the band perform. Motley Crue released another album called Shout at the Devil in September 1983 which helped the band dominate the 80’s metal market. Shout at the Devil was the band’s first major breakthrough and eventually became 4x platinum. Due to their success in heavy metal and rock, they gained the attention of Ozzy Osbourne and became the opening act for Osbourne’s tour in 1984.
In the 1970s, Mick Mars dropped out of high school and began to play guitar in various rock bands. He usually played in blues rock bands and called himself Zorky Charlemagne while playing. When playing with the band Whitehorse, Mick Mars met a vocalist named Micki Marz who was the inspiration for Robert’s eventual name change.
After 10 years of not getting the break he was looking for, Robert Deal dyed his hair jet black and changed his name to Mick Mars. In 1982, Elektra helped the band to reissue their first album called Too Fast for Love.
In the following years 1985, 1987 and 1989, Motley Crue released three multi platinum albums called Theatre of Pain, Girls, Girls, Girls and Dr. Feelgood. Theatre of Pain was very successful and reached number 6 on the Billboard album charts. The album became quadruple platinum and spawned Motley Crue’s first world tour.
The album Girls, Girls, Girls was released in 1987 and made it to the number spot on the Billboard 200. Dr. Feelgood was the band’s most successful album which had their album number 1 on the charts for 114 weeks after being released. Motley Crue had a lot of success in 1989 an 1990 while on a world tour to promote their albums which created a lot of financial success as well.
The band members stood out from the rest due to their crazy antics such as; lighting themselves on fire and spitting blood. Motley Crue also had strange clothing and strange styles such as; wearing extremely high heeled boots and very heavy make up. The band worked very hard to earn the success and respect they finally received in 1983 after playing at the US Festival. Motley Crue also reinvented their rock genre multiple times to prevent the audience from becoming bored. The band went from glam and outrageous outfits to the biker look to promote their latest albums. Also Motley Crue continued to be successful despite their antics, alcoholism and drug use, at least that’s what came across in the The Dirt (2019).
They would bounce back after rehab and continue making music. The band didn’t let anything stop them from making great music and performing on world tours. They pushed each other to continue to be successful by going to rehab together.
