Who Is Michael Lohan
Michael Lohan has been a much maligned figure in American pop culture ever since his public battles with his ex-wife, Dina, and superstar daughter, Lindsay Lohan, took over the tabloids in 2005. But now, more than ever, Michael has been shouting from the media rooftops that there are two sides to every story.
American television personality Michael Lohan has a net worth of only about $50 thousand dollars, as of 2020.
The Calm Before The Spotlight
Michael Lohan was born on April 25, 1960 in Cold Spring Harbor, a posh Long Island town that once boasted John Lennon as a resident. Although he claims his alcoholic father raised him, Michael still managed to land a cushy Wall Street job at the age of 20. Four years later, he met his future wife, Dina, when she was working as a salesperson at Bloomingdale’s. They married less than a year later, and baby Lindsay arrived in July of 1986.
Jail Bird Blues
In 1990, Lohan had his first major brush with the law when he was investigated for insider trading and convicted of criminal contempt of court because he refused to testify against other brokers. He was sent to jail for three years, leaving Dina home alone with the kids (the brood had expanded to two when Michael Jr. was born in 1987).
By the time he returned home, Lindsay was already enjoying a career as a child model, and in 1997 the 10-year old (now big sister to three younger siblings: Michael, Ali and Cody) landed the role of twins separated at birth in Disney’s remake of The Parent Trap. But when the tiny starlet was hospitalized in Los Angeles after having an asthma attack, daddy Lohan was sentenced to another year in prison for violating his parole by flying cross-country to see her.
After serving his subsequent year, Michael was free from prison and the paparazzi until 2005 when the success of Freaky Friday and Mean Girls turned Lindsay into a household name. According to him, that was the time when Dina and her family began tearing his own family apart, and tensions culminated in a fistfight between Michael and Dina’s brother, Matt, outside the family’s Long Island home. Michael was charged with assault and drunkenly drove his car into a pole while awaiting sentencing. He was sent back to jail for over two years and divorced Dina while behind bars. Despite claiming that it was Dina’s family who yearned to get their hands on Lindsay’s fortune, he requested a portion of Lindsay’s earnings as a part of the divorce settlement.
World’s Worst Dad?
Lindsay’s personal life began to spiral out of control when her dad went back to the clink, and in September of 2005 she released a single that aired out the family’s dirty laundry, ‘Confessions of a Broken Heart (Daughter to Father).’ While Lindsay went out on the town and earned her wild party girl reputation, Michael spent his time bad-mouthing Dina and lecturing Lindsay via the press.
In 2008, the recently freed Michael faced another blow when massage therapist Kristi Kaufmann claimed that her teenage daughter was the result of a fling she had with Michael while he was separated from Dina in 1995. Lohan admitted to the affair, and a DNA test later proved that Kaufmann’s accusations were correct.
Jon And Michael Plus None
By 2009, the public had begun to hate Michael and he had no family members left to turn to, so he began hitting the town with fellow public enemy Jon Gosselin. But, keeping with his ruthless reputation, in 2010 Lohan leaked damaging phone conversations between the two to RadarOnline and became engaged to Gosselin’s ex-girlfriend Kate Major.
Lindsay had a busy 2010 as well, filled with court dates, ankle bracelets and highly publicized break-up drama. Her father later brought TMZ and the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department to Lindsay’s house in April to check on the welfare of her teenage sister Ali. Dina reportedly asked a furious Lindsay to seek a restraining order against her father, but as of early 2011 father and daughter were still speaking as Lindsay faced another legal battle, this time for stealing a necklace.
In March of 2011, Michael announced that he would be bringing his struggles with anger management to reality TV on Dr. Drew’s Celebrity Rehab, but his dreams of TV stardom may go down in flames. On March 21, Michael was arrested for assaulting his ex-fiancée Kate Major and he is currently facing felony domestic violence charges. From writing open letters of advice to fellow Hollywood dads to spilling family secrets for anyone with an Internet connection, what are two words that Michael Lohan should learn? No comment.
Defining Quote “Frankly, I don’t care what my image is as portrayed in the media—what I care about is what I look in God’s eyes not man’s eyes. I know what’s in my heart, I know it’s upright, I know it’s righteous, I know I am just standing there for my daughter.”
