In Chula Vista, California, on October 10, 1973, Lopez was born. He is the son of Mario Alberto López Pérez and Elvira Soledad Trasvia. Lopez grew up in a Catholic household. Both of his parents left Mexico to emigrate. His mother was born in Tijuana, Territorio Norte de Baja California, while his father was born in Culiacán, Sinaloa.
