Who Is Lea Michele
She’s the pint-sized starlet with a voice that makes her sound 10 feet tall. From The Bronx to Broadway to network sensation, Lea’s story is nothing short of a fairytale. Not too shabby for a girl who was told that she’s “not pretty enough” for television.
American actress Lea Michele has a net worth of $13 million dollars, as of 2020.
From The Bronx To Broadway
Born in the Bronx to mother Edith, a nurse, and father Marc, a deli owner, it wasn’t New York, New York for the family for long. At a young age, Lea moved across the river to Tenafly, New Jersey. But her out-of-state move didn’t jeopardize her fateful encounter with Broadway. When Lea was eight, she and a friend auditioned for an open casting call for a Broadway musical. Two weeks later, in 1995, she was starring in the famed Les Miserables as Cosette.
Three years later, Lea continued her Broadway career when she auditioned and landed a role in the classic Ragtime. But Lea didn’t let her early age success go to her head. She continued to play the role of normal teenager in her real life and was known for doing her own thing in high school rather than worrying about whether that made her a target for the popular crowd.
But she would show those who doubted her wildly ambitious personality when in 2006 she once again landed on Broadway as the star of Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik’s award-winning musical Spring Awakening. But Lea wasn’t a stranger to her role as Wendla; she had been cast as the same character in an off-Broadway production when she was only 14. And the role she seemed born to play didn’t go by unnoticed—she was nominated for Outstanding Actress in a Musical by the Drama Desk. After two years on Broadway with the coming-of-age musical, Lea left the stage.
But in 2009, Lea landed a leading spot in what would make her a role model for performing arts geeks across the country. It was a part that was essentially written for the high stakes, go-getter (creator Ryan Murphy admitted he did have Lea in mind when writing the part). Lea played Rachel Berry on the FOX hit Glee and the awards couldn’t come in fast enough for the Broadway star turned TV actress. She landed a Satellite Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award as well as Emmy and Golden Globe nominations.
She’s a regular stunner on the red carpet and is already at icon status for “Gleeks” all over the globe. With the pipes of Idina Menzel, the smarts of Natalie Portman and the charisma of Julia Roberts, we couldn’t agree more that Lea is an icon in the making.
Defining Quote “I am an unconventional beauty. I grew up in a high school where if you didn’t have a nose job and money and if you weren’t thin, you weren’t cool, popular, beautiful. I was always told that I wasn’t pretty enough to be on television.”
