Who Is Lauren Conrad
She turned a privileged upbringing and penchant for the word “like” into a multimillion-dollar reality television career. Now she’s got her eye on a career in fashion, but whether she makes it or not, fans just love watching Lauren Conrad on every step of the way.
American television personality Lauren Conrad, has a net worth approaching $40 million dollars in 2020.
Born With A Silver Spoon
Born and raised in the affluent ocean side California town of Laguna Beach, Lauren was raised by her architect father, Jim, and mother, Kathy. Lauren’s mother always dressed her three children to the nines and inspired Lauren’s early fascination with fashion. Lauren would get a chance to display her trendy fashion sense when, her senior year of high school, she was approached by MTV to star alongside a group of her friends in a new reality series. The show, Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County, followed a group of popular, affluent beach beauties—a real life version of the hit prime-time soap The O.C.
Even after graduation, Lauren continued to appear on the second season of the show and cameras caught up with her as she headed to San Francisco to attend fashion school. But after only one semester, she decided she needed some time off and returned to Laguna Beach. The following season, Lauren headed to L.A. to give school a second go at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising.
Bad Boys And BFFs
Lauren went on to score an internship at Teen Vogue in L.A. and, not leaving her reality television days behind, she took the cameras along for the ride in a new MTV series, The Hills. Along with her new show, Lauren nabbed some new friends to share the spotlight with: Heidi Montag, Whitney Port and Audrina Patridge. She soon ditched her deadbeat boyfriend at the time Jason Wahler before getting involved with a string of Hollywood boys including Brody Jenner.
But things on set would get tricky when BFFs Lauren and Heidi began the frenemy battle of the decade. Heidi’s boyfriend (now husband) Spencer Pratt began a rumor that Lauren had starred in a sex tape with ex-boyfriend Wahler. Lauren vehemently denied the rumors (which later turned out to be completely fabricated) and Heidi stood by her BF rather than her BFF. The third season of The Hills captured the feuding bombshells in all of their catty glory and soon the entire country had picked a side: Team Heidi or Team Lauren.
But Lauren didn’t let her girl fighting get in the way of her own fashion design aspirations. In the spring of 2008, she launched her eponymous clothing line of loose-fitting jersey dresses and other beachwear—which was ultimately scrapped. Undeterred, she designed a line for Kohl’s, and in 2010, announced plans to launch another, more upscale clothing label.
With a fashion career underway, after five seasons of drama, Lauren decided it was time to ditch The Hills and focus on her career. But unable to part from the beloved limelight, she quickly inked another deal with MTV to have cameras follow her—this time, focusing on her fashion line as opposed to her personal life.
While some of her former castmates haven’t been able to break free from their drama-infused roles, Lauren has grown into a veritable force to be reckoned with. Although her fashion career has hit its fair share of snags, she’s one of the most profitable reality television stars and can even add “bestselling author” to her résumé thanks to her 2009 novel L.A. Candy. Eat your heart out, Heidi.
