About KT Tunstall
In June 1975, KT Tunstall was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. She was reared with two boys and adopted by a scientist (father) and a teacher (mother). According to her official biography, she began writing music at a young age “after her older brother discovered the joys of hair metal.”
Her father is Irish, and her mother is of Chinese ancestry. She was raised in the Scottish university town of St. Andrews. KT Tunstall studied at the Kent School prep school in Connecticut after finishing high school in St. Andrews. Although she started creating songs when she was a teenager, she didn’t start focusing on a career in music seriously until she was in her 20s.
She pursued studies on the flute and piano before deciding to sing and pick up the guitar at the age of 16. After graduating from high school, she moved to the United States to attend the Kent School in Connecticut and begin writing music for her band.
