Who Is Kristen Bell

Kristen Anne Bell was born and raised in Huntington Woods, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit. Her parents divorced when she was very young, but she remembers a happy childhood, staying close to both families and step-parents. All the same, she couldn’t repress the desire to be someone else: she didn’t like her name, so at age four, she instructed her entire family to exclusively refer to her as “Smurfette.” It didn’t stick, nor did her subsequent request to be called “Matthew,” so she decided on “Annie,” the name she’d go by until halfway through high school.

A performer by any name, Bell fell in love, early and hard, with acting. Her first role was at age 11, cast in a local theater production of Raggedy Ann and Andy, in a part she would later describe with her ready wit as “the complex dual role of the banana in the first act and the tree in the second act.” Her mother got her an agent when she was 13 and she performed through her time in private school, then followed her dream to New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts to major in musical theater.

Today the award winning actress, is also a director, producer, singer and author. She is well known for her acting work in movies such as Disney’s Frozen and Zootopia, as well as in theater, television, web series and even video games. Bell is also a mother and mental health advocate, speaking out about her struggles with mental health and working with charities for animal rights. She is undeniably well known and very successful, but how did she get there?

American actress Kristen Bell has a net worth of $20 million dollars, as of 2021.

Why is she so famous?

To be an actress was the ultimate goal of school, so when she earned the role of Becky Thatcher in the Broadway musical The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, she decided to drop out just four credits shy of graduation. The next year, when she was 22, she appeared on Broadway again, this time alongside Liam Neeson and Laura Linney in The Crucible.

Kristen Bell’s mother, Lorelei, helped establish her with an agent so she could audition for movie roles. By 1998, she had her first movie role, though uncredited, in Polish Wedding, which was locally filmed.

Just before her freshman year of high school, Bell’s parents moved her from the public school system to Shrine Catholic High School, where she joined the drama and music clubs. This led to her starring as Dorothy Gale in the school’s production of The Wizard Of Oz in 1997, as well as appearing in many of the school’s other productions during her time there.

Kristen Bell graduated from Shrine Catholic High School in 1998, the same year as her role in Polish Wedding. Soon after this, she moved to New York City to major in musical theater at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, though she left in 2001, only a few credits off graduating, because she had landed a role as Becky Thatcher in Broadway’s musical version of The Adventures Of Tom Sawyer.

This musical was fairly short lived, but the same year she landed her first credited movie debut in Pootie Tang, although her only line was cut and she appeared only in a credit sequence scene.

LA Here We Come

With an impressive resume and an even better work ethic, she moved to Los Angeles in 2002 where she found early luck, but not lasting luck. She was cast for the pilot episode of The Shield within weeks, but her work was scattered and brief. Over the next two years she had one episode on American Dreams, two episodes on The O’Keefes, one episode on Everwood and a role in Gracie’s Choice, a Lifetime movie (albeit a very highly rated one).

Bell continued to audition for roles on Broadway and on Television, appearing as a guest star but struggling to find a recurring role. Between 2004 and 2006 she began to appear in television dramas such as Gracie’s choice and Deadwood, as well as making her debut in David Mamet’s theatrically released film Spartan as Laura Newton. The U.S. president’s kidnapped daughter.

Mission To Mars

Her break wouldn’t come until 2004 when she auditioned for the title character of a spunky high school detective in Veronica Mars. Here was the role she was waiting for—like the character, Bell had lost her best friend in high school and could be at once sassy, vulnerable and precocious. She breathed an inner life into Mars, and though critics heaped praise on Bell and her show, it struggled to find a steady audience, and was canceled by the CW after its third season.

This role earned Bell recognition, with critics even calling her performance ‘overlooked’ and deserving of consideration for an Emmy award.

“I Want To Work”

Though Veronica Mars died young, it was enough to put Bell on the map, and she knew she had to get proactive and use her moment. “When I heard about Gossip Girl,” she says on how she became the narrator, “I called someone at the network and asked if I could do something on it. At that time, I didn’t have a job, and I’m not some idiot who just wants to hang out in L.A.—I want to work.”

From here, Kristen Bell continued to land roles in TV series and movies, and began to appear in web series, music videos and commercials.

Between 2004 and 2020, Bell has appeared in many critically acclaimed movies. Notably for her role as Anna in Frozen, Frozen II and various spin offs in the Frozen Franchise. She made her Director’s debut with episode eight, season four of The Good Place, where she plays a leading role as Eleanor Shellstrop.

What Makes Her So Successful?

Known for being approachable, witty, and unfazed by Hollywood, Bell quickly found more work. She earned a recurring role on the hit series Heroes and a healthy feature film career, most visibly in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Couples Retreat and When in Rome.

And though her films deal frequently with multiple men and/or loves, in real life she’s a “serial monogamist”—after ending a five-year relationship with former fiancé Kevin Mann in 2007, she started dating actor and comedian Dax Shepherd. The two were engaged in early 2011.

Most of Bell’s big-screen work has been romantic comedy based, but she is the first to say she doesn’t want to be pigeonholed as such. After lighting up Broadway, cult stardom on television and headlining movies, it remains to be seen just how far the Midwestern girl with the California looks can go.

Kristen Bell has worked hard to achieve everything she has, and continues to be driven and successful. She is admired and respected for her ability to remain humble and genuinely grateful for the things she has in her life, as well as for being a loving wife and mother.

Her work in charity, as well as her incredible acting skills, sense of humor and her attitude towards mental health and other issues make her an incredible role model, and Bell continues to be successful because she is hard working and down to earth, never being selfish with the money she makes, and using her platform to spread positivity, all while continuing to invest herself fully into her acting and her other projects.

How Did Kristen Bell Make Her Money?

Kristen Bell first began to earn money from her acting before her role in Veronica Mars. However, as with her acting career, her role as Veronica really began her road to wealth. After working so hard to get to this point, Bell began to become more and more well known. Without a doubt, most of Kristen Bell’s net worth, an estimate of between eight to twenty million U.S. dollars, comes from her acting and all the work she did towards it. After Veronica Mars, Bell shot up to celebrity status and became pretty much a household name. With roles in award winning movies and other acting jobs, as well as winning awards herself, it’s understandable as to why the star has become so wealthy.

Kristen Bell became rich and famous with hard work and dedication. Taking acting lessons from a young age and trying her best in all of her auditions and projects, combined with her university education in acting and musical theater led her into a prosperous career and life with her husband, Dax Shepard, and two children. Her big break was her lead role as Veronica in the TV show Veronica Mars, which led to many future roles, though she had plenty of previous acting experience.

Bell has starred in TV shows, movies, web series, commercials and music videos, and has experience in directing from her work on television show, The Good Place. She continues to be successful in her acting career, winning many awards including a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame, as well as living a fairly normal life despite her money and fame.

Bell is respected for her mental health advocacy and her charity work, particularly with charities for animal rights. She is hard working and a kind person despite her success, and is therefore a well known name and a role model. She is praised for her sense of humor and down to earth personality, and is a fantastic actress.

Defining Quote “I don’t want to be pigeonholed into doing just romantic comedies. But they’re fun, and especially for women, it’s nice to go to see them and enjoy that breath of fresh air.”
