About Kelly Evans
Evans began her career at the Wall Street Journal in 2007 and has covered economics and real estate since then. Additionally, she was employed there in the capacity of a correspondent for the Global Economics office. She moderated a James Carville v. Ann Coulter debate as part of the 25th annual mock convention event at her alma mater. Evans has been compared to former CNBC host Erin Burnett, who left the cable business channel to anchor a news program on CNN. The 2012 Republican Primary debate took place in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina .
Evans was raised in Lexington, Virginia, in Rockbridge County, close to the Blue Ridge Mountains, despite the fact that she was born in Syracuse, New York. She played lacrosse, cross country, and track at Rockbridge County High School, where she earned a total of eight letters.
After that, she went on to study at Washington and Lee University, where she was named a George Washington Honor Scholar and awarded a full-ride academic scholarship. She went on to receive a bachelor of arts degree in business journalism and graduated with the highest honors possible. She was selected to the First Team All-State, the First Team All-ODAC, and the First Team All-Region for the women’s lacrosse team, and she was a member of the national leadership society Omicron Delta Kappa. She was a four-time member of the Scholar-Athlete Honor Society.
She was based in the London, England headquarters of CNBC Europe from May 2012 till May 2013, and she is now situated in the New Jersey headquarters of CNBC. Before joining CNBC, she worked as an economics reporter at The Wall Street Journal, where she penned the column “Ahead of the Tapes” contributed to the “Heard on the Street” column, and hosted the daily “News Hub” on WSJ.com. Prior to joining CNBC, she appeared as a regular guest on a number of different television news programs.
After Maria Bartiromo left her position as co-host of Closing Bell at CNBC in 2013, Evans took over the role and remained in that role until 2018, when CNBC relocated to their new show, The Exchange. Sara Eisen would take over for Evans as the new co-host of Closing Bell.
On April 22nd, 2017, she tied the knot with Eric Chemi, a sports writer for CNBC. They are parents to four little ones.
