About Keith Whitley
The estimated net worth of Jackie Keith Whitley, an American country music artist, is $2 million (July 1, 1954 – May 9, 1989). Bluegrass prodigy Keith Whitley began his career by imitating the Stanley Brothers. Whitley and his boyhood friend Ricky Skaggs had the chance to play with Ralph Stanley when they were young. Till 1972, Whitley performed with the Clinch Mountain Boys, a bluegrass institution.
With a smooth baritone that appealed to listeners, Keith Whitley shot to popularity in the 1980s. But he unfortunately lost his life too soon. Whitley died at the age of 33 from alcohol poisoning after a lifetime of drinking issues.
Whitley started exploring new musical terrain with the progressive bluegrass groups Country Store and J.D. Crowe & The New South before subsequently re-joining the band in ’74.
Whitley’s debut solo country album, Hard Act to Follow, was released in 1984. Whitley achieved his greatest career success with producer Garth Fundis after debuting on the charts with the tongue-twisting ballad “Miami, My Amy,” particularly with their joint single “Don’t Close Your Eyes.”
Whitley passed away from an alcohol overdose in 1989, at the height of his fame. I Wonder Do You Think of Me, his final album, was released a few months after the singer passed away.
Keith Whitley was a talented performer who could handle both tender ballads and hard-edged honky-tonk songs. That put him in good company with prominent ’80s country performers like Randy Travis, George Strait, and Ricky Van Shelton. It is generally acknowledged that Hank Williams, Lefty Frizzell, George Jones, and the Stanley Brothers were his musical influences.
At the age of 34, Whitley passed away at his Goodlettsville home from alcohol consumption in 1989. Keith Whitley had a $2 million net worth at the time of his demise.
Whitley’s later singles, “I Wonder Do You Think of Me”, “It Ain’t Nothin'”, and “I’m Over You”, were released posthumously.
