Who Is Josh Hartnett

Actor Josh Hartnett has appeared in an assortment of movies spanning from teen horror flicks to contrasting war dramas to swearing off sex in the comedy 40 Days and 40 Nights. With his tousled hair and shapely jaw line, Hartnett quickly earned a place in the long lineup twenty-something heartthrobs of the late ‘90s.

American actor Josh Hartnett has a net worth of $25 million dollars, as of 2020.

Lucky Break

Joshua Daniel Hartnett was raised in St. Paul, Minnesota the eldest of four. Growing up, Hartnett kept active in sports until a knee injury sidelined him long enough for him to take an interest in acting. After being cast as a starring role in a high school play, Hartnett couldn’t shake his love for the art. Once he graduated, Hartnett moved to New York to pursue his newfound passion and enrolled in the theater arts department at SUNY Purchase. When he decided to quit his studies a year later, Hartnett moved to Los Angeles where he caught his big break remarkably fast.

At the age of 19, Hartnett made his onscreen debut in a highly acclaimed, but short-lived, ABC show, Cracker. The show produced 16 episodes before it was cancelled, but Hartnett maintained steady acting work in commercials and plays before making his foray into movies.

Horror And Breaking Hearts

For his first shot at the big screen, Hartnett was cast with horror film mogul Jamie Lee Curtis in 1998’s Halloween H2O: 20 Years Later. The film marked the beginning of his steep upward climb in the industry. Hartnett followed with yet another horror movie The Faculty the same year, in which he was cast with fellow rising stars Elijah Wood and Usher. But dreamy-eyed teenagers didn’t need any further persuasion for nodding in agreement when Hartnett began popping up on round after round of hottest celebrities lists.

At the peak of his popularity, Hartnett was a seemingly unavoidable presence in a string of mainstream movies. He reached ultimate fame after he was cast in Michael Bay’s big-budget 2001 blockbuster Pearl Harbor, playing part in a love triangle with Ben Affleck and Kate Beckinsale. His following film sharply contrasted this melodramatic mess as Hartnett was cast with Ewan McGregor and Orlando Bloom in the gritty war drama Black Hawk Down the same year. Hartnett played a minor role in the electric cast of the ultraviolent comic book adaptation Sin City (2004), which also featured big names like Bruce Willis, Jessica Alba and Clive Owen.

Stealing Hearts

While shooting his next big film, The Black Dahlia (2006), Hartnett found romance. Upon meeting Scarlett Johansson, his co-star in the film, he fell for the lovely actress. The couple dated for two years before their busy schedules forced them to end their relationship.

Since then, Hartnett has all but dropped back into obscurity, choosing not to play the Hollywood game and instead working in a number of independent films. Although he’s never received much critical acclaim, Josh Hartnett is undoubtedly a successful actor.
