John Hoyer Updike (March 18, 1932 – January 27, 2009) was an American novelist, poet, short-story writer, art critic, and literary critic with an estimated net worth of $20 million. John Updike was born in Reading, Pennsylvania. Updike attended Harvard on full scholarship and graduated in 1954 with a degree in English (summa cum laude).
