About John Maxwell
Maxwell has served as the senior pastor of churches in Indiana, Ohio, California, and Florida since the 1970s. In 1995, he resigned from his position as senior pastor at Skyline Church, which he had held for the prior 14 years. Since his return to congregational ministry in 2004, Maxwell has been serving as a teaching pastor at Christ Fellowship in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
At the beginning of his tenure as a guest pastor at Crystal Cathedral in Orange County, California, he began his work on November 16, 2008. After his son Robert A. Schuller stepped down from his position as senior pastor in 2008, his mentor, Robert H. Schuller, invited a number of well-known evangelical pastors to preach at his megachurch. Maxwell made a number of trips back to the Crystal Cathedral to deliver sermons, and the broadcasts of those sermons can be found on the Hour of Power television program.
Maxwell was born in the year 1947 in Garden City, which is located in Michigan. He was born and raised an evangelical Christian, and he followed in his father’s footsteps by entering the ministry. In 1969, he received his bachelor’s degree from Circleville Bible College. Subsequently, he received his master’s degree in divinity from Azusa Pacific University and his doctorate in ministry from Fuller Theological Seminary. He and his wife Margaret have made their home in South Florida for the time being. In the Wesleyan Church, he holds the position of an ordained minister.
Leadership is one of Maxwell’s specialties, and he also speaks and writes about the topic. INJOY, Maximum Impact, The John Maxwell Team, ISS, and EQUIP were all established under his leadership. EQUIP is an international organization for leadership development that is working to assist leaders. The organization is involved with leaders from over 80 different countries.
Maxwell gives speeches on an annual basis to a wide variety of audiences, including those at Fortune 500 companies, international government leaders, and organizations as varied as the National Football League and the United States Military Academy at West Point.
In addition to being a best-selling author in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Business Week, he was selected as one of 25 authors to be inducted into the 10th Anniversary Hall of Fame on Amazon.com. Over a million copies of each of his books, “The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership,” “Developing the Leader Within You,” and “21 Indispensable Qualities of a Leader,” have been sold.
At Concordia University in Irvine in 2007, Maxwell was initiated into the Omicron Delta Kappa honor society. As a result of Maxwell’s influence on the Wesleyan Church, the institution that owns Indiana Wesleyan University, the university has named a building after him and his family. The Maxwell Center for Business and Leadership is located on the campus of Indiana Wesleyan University. The year 2015 marked his induction into the IWU Society of World Changers, concurrently with the conferral of an honorary doctorate degree from the university.
Maxwell’s organization provided leadership training to 24,000 people in Guatemala in July of 2013. The leadership training sessions that lasted for an entire week were attended by several members of the John Maxwell Team. Maxwell went to Guatemala City in March 2022 to attend a Christian conference that was held there under the name Conference for Life and the Family. This conference was supported by the president of Guatemala, Alejandro Giammattei. During a meeting with various business owners, he lauded the Attorney General of Guatemala, Maria Consuelo Porras, referring to her as “a rockstar” and a “leader of leaders”.
On multiple occasions, including the most recent one in 2010, Maxwell delivered the keynote address at the National Agents Alliance NAA Leadership Conference. Maxwell was the featured speaker at the National Conference that was hosted by Symmetry Financial Group in February of 2018. Toastmasters International bestowed upon him the honor of the Golden Gavel that same year.
