He is an American actor, competitive eater, and internet personality that’s best known for his many records in the competitive eating competitions, with his most first win being the one of the 92nd annual edition of Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest.

He and his younger brother were both raised by his mother in Fulton County, Kentucky after his father left them when Joey was two years old. Joseph and his mother moved back to California in the 1990s and settled in San Jose. There, he attended the San Jose High School from which he earned his graduation in 2001.
After his high school graduation, Chestnut enrolled at the San Jose State University. He graduated in late 2006 and received his bachelor’s degree in construction management and engineer. Initially, he had the aspirations to become an engineer but after attending several food competitions, he found passion in the sport. He officially entered the competitive eating just a year earlier, in July 2005. His breakthrough performance was in a deep-fried asparagus eating championship, where he ate 6.3 pounds of asparagus in just 11 minutes and defeated then-champion Rich LeFevre.
Winning Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contests and championships certainly helped this media star become rich. After his win over LeFevre, he began attending other competitions.
