In 1984, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and religious studies. He then attended the University of Virginia (School of Law), from which he obtained a Juris Doctor in 1987. After his graduation from the institution, he began serving in private practice as the lawyer of both the Liberty University and all of its related organizations in the Virginia area. In 2000, he became an official member of the university’s Board of Trustees. After his father passed away in mid-May 2007, he was appointed the fourth president of Liberty University.
