About Jeff Probst
Probst was born Jeffrey Lee Probst in Wichita, Kan. His family had moved to Bellevue, Wash., near Seattle, when he was still a young boy. The move was enough for Probst to call Seattle his hometown.
After attending Newport High School and graduated in 1979, Probst found his love for filmmaking while enrolled at Seattle Pacific University. He soon found himself working as a producer for Boeing’s marketing department, a job that he was good at and allowed him to improve on his skills. First jobs can often being an opportunity to develop skills and Probst took full advantage of the resources that he was offered. He produced corporate videos, where he served as both creator and talent, often narrating the films himself.
Today, Probst may be best known as host of Survivor, but he has also acted as host for a number of television programs before Survivor‘s fall 2000 premiere. Back in 1994, he was host of Backchat, a program that answered viewer questions about the then new network. He was also hosting a show called Sound fX, and soon after joined VH1 as host of Rock & Roll Jeopardy! in 1998. That was followed by the NBC TV special Dave Barlia: Extreme Stuntman.
Probst broke out as host of the mega-hit, Survivor. He has remained host and producer of the program for more than a decade, over 540 episodes. He has also widened his audience, appearing as a guest on nearly every talk show on the air. He has also put efforts into his filmmaking, in 2001 he wrote and directed the independent film Finder’s Fee. It was about the story that unfolded after a man happens upon a wallet containing with a lottery ticket worth $6 million dollars. The film that starred Ryan Reynolds, James Earl Jones and Matthew Lillard was met with positive reviews.
In 2016, Probst appeared as himself on the sitcom Life in Pieces, in the episode “Swim Survivor Zen Talk”. As of 2023, Jeff Probst’s net worth is estimated to be $50 million.
