In January of 1998, Kinney proposed the concept of a middle school wimp named Greg Heffley who composes graphic stories about his own life and shares them with his friends. Diary of a Wimpy Kid was initially published as an online serial by FunBrain and Jeff Kinney in May of 2004. Up to June 2005, the website featured new content on a daily basis. Before presenting it to a publisher in New York City, United States of America, he labored on his book for close to eight years.
When Kinney was a student at college, he came up with the idea for the now-famous comic strip Igdoof, which was published in the student newspaper known as The Diamondback. Kinney earned his degree in criminal justice from the University of Maryland in 1993. He had initially planned to major in computer science at the university, but he changed his mind so that he could spend more time working on his comic.
He graduated from the University of Maryland in 2021, which qualified him for membership in the Omicron Delta Kappa honor society. Jeff Kinney and Julie Kinney tied the knot on the 14th of December in 2003. They are the parents of two sons as a couple. He has a home in Plainville, which is located in Massachusetts at the moment. Jeff inked a multi-book contract with publisher Harry N. Abrams, Inc. in February 2006, during the New York Comic Con, to turn Diary of a Wimpy Kid into a print series. The deal was to make the book into a print series.
