Born February 18, 1983 in Chicago, Illinois, Jason Maxiell has always been a talented athlete. It was clear early on that his eye and hand coordination and reaction time were near perfect, and as he grew in height to 2.01 meters, it was clear he would be a great addition to the sport.

After leaving Newman Smith High School, Maxiell played basketball at the University of Cincinnati where he also earned his college degree. In 2002, he was named the Conference USA Sixth Man of the Year and made the Conference USA All-Freshmen Team. And then between 2004 and 2005 was named Second-team All-Conference USA.
In the 2005 NBA Draft, he was drafted number 26 overall into the NBA team, Detroit Pistons. This is the team where Maxiell would play for most of his career, from 2005 to 2013. In 2008 he signed a deal with the Pistons which earned him $20 million dollars for a four-year contract.
Maxiell later played for the Orlando Magic team from 2013 to 2014. In 2013 he signed a two-year contract with Orlando Magic for $5 million. Later he played for the Charlotte Hornets from 2014 to 2015, then in China for the Tianjin Ronggang team. Yet returned to play for the Pistons again in 2017.
