Louis James Lipton, an American author, songwriter, and actor (September 19, 1926 – March 2, 2020), is thought to have had a $6 million net worth. After high school, James Lipton began his career as a radio actor. He switched to television before deciding in the middle of the 1950s to focus on writing. He worked as an acting instructor and created several plays, TV movies, and books before being inspired to start the television program Inside the Actor’s Studio, which has aired over 231 episodes since 1994 and has featured various Arrested Development stars.
He has received three honorary doctorates over his career and has been named a Chevalier dans l’ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Republic. Inside the Actors Studio, a Bravo cable television series that started in 1994, was executive produced, written, and hosted by him. 2018 saw his exit from the program.
He contributed writing to a number of soap operas, such as Another World, The Edge of Night, and Guiding Light, where he also acted for ten years. For two Broadway plays (Sherry! and Nowhere to Go But Up) and a few novels, he composed the story and lyrics.
