About Isaac Mizrahi
Isaac Mizrahi, a Syrian Jew born in Brooklyn in 1961, got his start in the fashion industry at a young age. His mother incessantly supported the arts and artistic activities, and his father was a manufacturer of children’s clothing.
He went to the Yeshivah of Flatbush High School of Performing Arts for high school, where he started honing his design skills. He was admitted to the famous Parsons School of Design in New York after graduating.
Mizrahi began working with design magnate Perry Ellis in March 1981, where he had a particularly rewarding apprenticeship. Mizrahi acknowledges Ellis as a significant inspiration for his writing. The aspiring fashion designer secured employment at Calvin Klein the next year, where he gained practical experience in tailoring and cutting.
When Mizrahi was 26 years old in 1986, Bergdorf Goodman bought his first apparel business. The designer held his debut fashion show the following year, at which point editors of magazines and fashion critics started to take notice of him.
It has been said that Mizrahi’s work is nothing short of prolific. The fashion designer won the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s Perry Ellis Emerging Talent Award in 1989, not long after starting. The CFDA went on to name him Designer of the Year the following year.
The plaudits and critical acclaim would last the whole 1990s. A special CFDA award was given to Mizrahi in 1996 for his documentary, Unzipped, which chronicled his career as a fashion designer. The Oxygen channel made use of his affable nature in 2001 when it launched The Isaac Mizrahi Show, a discussion show.
Bergdorf Goodman, Net-a-Porter, and other upscale retailers carry the men’s and women’s clothing from the Isaac Mizrahi New York Couture and Semi-Couture lines. The Isaac Mizrahi for Target line was also started by him. This selection of pieces, dresses, and even bridal gowns is reasonably priced.
