When I was an adolescent growing up in Germany, everything began. When she was 18 years old in 1992, a friend persuaded her to participate in a modeling competition that would be broadcast on one of Germany’s most well-liked shows.
Heidi entered the contest for fun in the hopes of winning one of the automobiles given to the top five, but she ended up taking home everything, including a sizable three-year modeling contract.
Discovering The Secret
Klum decided to finish her education before beginning her career, so she didn’t really get going until the following year, when she relocated to New York after traveling to model in Hamburg, Milan, and Paris. She spent four years working and residing in the United States before she was offered the 1997 Victoria’s Secret runway show, which would prove to be her last. She also got married that year to her partner, celebrity hairstylist Ric Pipino, although they separated amicably in 2003.
She appeared on the cover of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue in the spring of 1998, solidifying her image as a supermodel and launching her into acting jobs, such as a poorly received guest appearance on Spin City and a small role in the 2001 comedy Blow Dry. Although she had a lackluster acting career, she was cast as the host of the Project Runway fashion design competition. The program, which pitted designers against one another in demanding, occasionally odd tasks, was an immediate hit and received nominations for several Emmy Awards, including one for Outstanding Host for Heidi.
Sealing The Deal
But Heidi’s life didn’t only benefit from Project Runway in 2004. She began dating Flavio Briatore, the famed modelizer and playboy who manages the racecar team, shortly after divorcing Pipino, and they got pregnant quickly. Although their relationship didn’t endure, she met Seal a few months before she was supposed to give birth and he was remarkably sympathetic to her predicament. Just before Christmas of that year, the singer made a grand proposal to her in a custom-built igloo in Canada, but when they got married in Mexico in May 2010, they traded in snow for sand beaches.
Heidi continued to balance modeling and her job as a host while yet finding time to have more children.
Following the birth of her first child, Leni, in May 2004, she gave birth to sons Henry and Johan in September 2005, October 2009, and Lou in October, all sons. But the harried model, host, businesswoman, wife, and mother has declared that she is finished.
This is what she also told Victoria’s Secret when she left the company that had launched her career in the fall of 2010. On Project Runway, she carries on breaking hearts and fulfilling aspirations. For Seal, spending each day with this seductive woman is certainly a dream come true.
