Who Is Heidi Klum
She’s said auf wiedersehen to droves of aspiring designers who have dared to strut their wares down her runway and to Victoria’s Secret, the lingerie company that made her a star. But the world won’t be saying goodbye to Heidi Klum anytime soon. The German supermodel who transformed her famous curves into a lucrative television career, left the runway, but the spotlight is still shining bright on her.
German model Heidi Klum has a net worth of $175 million dollars, as of 2020.
It all started as a teenager growing up in Germany. In 1992, when she was 18, a friend convinced her to enter a modeling contest that would be featured on one of Germany’s most popular shows. Heidi entered for fun hoping to snag one of the cars awarded to the five finalists, but she ended up winning it all including a lucrative three-year modeling contract.
Learning The Secret
Klum opted to finish school before pursuing her career, so she didn’t really gain momentum until the following year when, after traveling to model in Hamburg, Milan and Paris, she took the plunge and moved to New York. She lived and worked in the U.S. for four years before she snagged her first fateful runway show with lingerie giant Victoria’s Secret in 1997. That year, she also married her boyfriend, hairstylist to the stars Ric Pipino, but the couple divorced amicably in 2003.
In the spring of 1998, she was featured on the cover of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue, cementing her supermodel status and leading to acting roles including an ill-received guest spot on Spin City and a small part in the 2001 comedy Blow Dry. Although her acting left much to be desired, she landed a role being herself as the host of fashion design competition Project Runway. The show, which pitted designers against one another in stressful, sometimes bizarre, challenges, was an instant success and was nominated for several Emmys including nods for Heidi for Outstanding Host.
Sealing The Deal
But Project Runway wasn’t the only good thing to come into Heidi’s life in 2004. Soon after her divorce from Pipino, she started dating racecar team manager and notorious modelizer/playboy Flavio Briatore and became pregnant soon after. Their romance didn’t last, but just months before she was due to give birth, she met Seal, who was miraculously understanding of her situation. The singer proposed to her in spectacular fashion in a custom-made igloo in Canada just before Christmas that year, but the couple swapped snow for sandy beaches when they tied the knot in May 2010 in Mexico.
Heidi continued to juggle modeling and her hosting gig, but still found time to become a mother several times over. Following her first child Leni’s birth in May 2004, she had a son Henry in September 2005, another son Johan in November 2006 and a daughter Lou in October 2009. But the busy model/host/entrepreneur/wife/mom has said that she’s done.
Which is what she also said to Victoria’s Secret in the fall of 2010 when she retired from the brand that had catapulted her career. Meanwhile, she continues to break hearts and make dreams come true on Project Runway. And as for Seal, every day with this sexy vixen is probably a dream come true.
