Greg Laurie was born in Long Beach, California. He made his Christian conversion at the age of 17. The next year, he led his first Bible study. The group, formerly known as the Harvest Christian Fellowship, later changed its name to a church and swiftly became one of the largest in the US.

When this Bible study moved to its new location on Arlington Avenue because it outgrew its previous location, it became a church.
