Frederick S. Biletnikoff is a former gridiron football player and coach. Biletnikoff, the son of Natalie (Karuba) and Ephriam Biletnikoff, was born and reared in Erie, Pennsylvania. His four grandparents were all immigrants from Russia. Biletnikoff was a student at Technical Memorial High School in Erie, which is now Erie High School and whose sporting field bears his name. Biletnikoff excelled in football, basketball, baseball, and track in high school. He won All-City recognition in baseball and basketball in addition to being a champion high jumper. In the middle of the 1960s, Bob, his younger brother, started at quarterback for the Miami Hurricanes.
