About Franco Harris
Franco Harris is an American former professional football player who was a fullback in the National Football League for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Seattle Seahawks.
In New Jersey’s Fort Dix, Harris was born. His father, Black soldier Cad Harris, was in World War II and was based in Italy at the time. His mother, Gina Parenti Harris, an Italian native who later became a “war bride” traveled to the United States with her husband when the war was over.
Harris was chosen by the Pittsburgh Steelers with the 13th overall choice in the first round of the 1972 NFL Draft after playing college football for the Penn State Nittany Lions. He was chosen for the Pro Bowl nine times and played for the Pittsburgh Steelers, who won four Super Bowls. In Super Bowl IX against the Minnesota Vikings, he was named Most Valuable Player (MVP). He had a significant role in one of the most well-known plays in professional football, the “Immaculate Reception” which earned the Steelers their first playoff victory.
He spent his first 12 seasons playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers and his final two with the Seattle Seahawks. In 1990, he was admitted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
