Olga Feodorovna, Fedor Emelianenko’s mother, was a teacher, and Vladimir Alexandrovich, his father, was a gas-electric welder. He has two younger brothers, one of which is a well-known mixed martial arts fighter by the name of Aleksander Emelianenko, and an elder sister named Marina. Ivan is the name of his other younger sibling.
Although he presently practices standing up, Emelianenko, like other MMA fighters, has a background largely in Judo and Sambo. Vasiliy Ivanovich Gavrilov served as his first judo and sambo instructor. Later, he started working out with Vladimir Mihailovich Voronov, his present trainer.
Emelianenko didn’t continue his martial arts training after that, but he did hone his strength and athleticism while serving in the Russian Army (1995–1997).
