About Eugene Levy
He is most known for his roles in the American Pie movie and the Canadian television series Schitt’s Creek. Second City Television and Second City Toronto alumnus Levy frequently portrays eccentric side characters with nerdy tendencies. Earl Camembert, the naive news anchor for SCTV News and a spoof of real-life Canadian newsman Earl Cameron, is probably his most recognizable role on SCTV. He made guest appearances in the comedy series from 1976 through 1984.
Levy’s family is Jewish, and he was born in the heart of Hamilton, Ontario. His father was a foreman at a car factory, and his mother, Rebecca (Kudlatz), stayed at home to raise him and his brother. He is the middle sibling, between Fred and Barbara.

Schitt’s Creek, a CBC/Pop TV sitcom, was co-created by Levy and his son Dan Levy. His son, Johnny Rose, also appears on the show, but he is the titular leader of the Rose family. Sarah Levy, his daughter, plays Twyla Sands, a waitress at the restaurant in Schitt’s Creek. Fred Levy, brother of showrunner Eugene Levy, is also an executive producer. Levy actively promotes autism research and care. John Candy, the actor, was a close friend of his. Levy is an active participant in the anti-racism group Artists Against Racism in Canada.
The Governor General’s Performing Arts Award is Canada’s highest distinction for the performing arts, and Levy has received it as well as the Order of Canada. He was made Pacific Palisades’ honorary mayor in 2021.
