About Eric Johnson
Johnson was born in Massachusetts’ Needham. In Massachusetts, he went to Belmont Hill School and Needham High School. Later, he played wide receiver for Yale University. In Yale’s comeback victory over Harvard in the 1999 Harvard-Yale Game, he hauled in 21 passes for 244 yards, including the touchdown catch that sealed the victory.
San Francisco 49ers selected Johnson in the seventh round of the 2001 NFL Draft. He made a contribution to the 49ers passing game while he was healthy. However, due to an injury, he was sidelined for the all of 2003 and 2005. He was the 49ers’ top receiver in 2004, hauling in 82 passes for 825 yards and two scores. Johnson and Vernon Davis, the team’s first-round draft pick at tight end, shared playing time during the 2006 campaign. In 2007, Johnson agreed to a one-year deal with the New Orleans Saints. On March 14, 2008, the team re-signed him. He was released by the Saints on July 31, 2008.
