About Elroy Hirsch
Hirsch, a Wausau, Wisconsin, native, played halfback in college football for the Universities of Wisconsin and Michigan, guiding the 1942 Badgers and the 1943 Wolverines to third-place finishes in the final AP Polls. Due to his peculiar running gait, he was given the moniker “Crazylegs” (or “Crazy Legs” occasionally).
Elroy Leon “Crazylegs” Hirsch was an American professional football player, sports executive, and actor who lived from June 17, 1923 to January 28, 2004. Both the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the College Football Hall of Fame inducted him in 1967 and 1974, respectively. He was also named to the National Football League (NFL) 1950s All-Decade Team and the 1968 All-Pro team.
