About Dwight D. Eisenhower
Dwight David “Ike” Eisenhower was an American statesman and military officer who served from October 14, 1890 to March 28, 1969. His estimated net worth was $10 million. One of the most honorable lives in American history was that of Dwight D. Eisenhower. In Denison, Texas, in 1890, Dwight Eisenhower was born. His family relocated to Kansas when he was a baby. He enrolled at West Point in 1911, and upon graduation he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the infantry.
Military Service
Eisenhower was the in charge of a training facility during World War I. He served in the Philippines in 1935. He was chosen to lead American forces in Europe in June 1942, during World War II. Other noteworthy jobs are:
Head of the American Zone in German-occupied territory
Army’s chief of staff
The first Supreme Allied Commander in Europe.
From 1948 to 1953, he presided over Columbia University, and for a portion of that time, he also served as NATO’s Supreme Commander. However, a “Draft Eisenhower” movement started before the 1952 election in an effort to get him to run for president.
34th President of the United States
He defeated Senator Robert Taft for the nomination with the slogan “I Like Ike” and an anti-Communism and anti-government waste platform, and then defeated Democrat Adlai Stevenson in the general election. As the 34th President of the United States, he held office for two terms.
Eisenhower ruled over a period of relative tranquility despite the Korean War.
President’s achievements
Among his many achievements as president, he dispatched federal troops to Little Rock, Arkansas, to enforce the desegregation of the city’s public schools and signed the Civil Rights Acts of 1957 and 1960 into law.

In order to write his memoirs, Eisenhower relocated to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, following his retirement in 1961.
He passed away from congestive heart failure in March 1969 at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC. He frequently appears on historians’ lists of the top ten US presidents today.
