His life was turned into the documentary Mister Soul – A Story About Donny Hathaway, which premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam in 2020.
“Donny Hathaway made a great impression on me because he was a pure artist, he lives just for the music and everything he did was musically driven. He left a great mark on today’s music. You have a lot of new artists that are very impressed by Donny.” — Music director/arranger Ray Chew.
Rolling Stone magazine described Hathaway as a “soul legend”.
Born in Chicago, Hathaway grew up in St. Louis and played piano, earning a fine arts scholarship to Howard University in 1964. Commercial & Critical Success
