About Donald Fagen

Fagen tied the knot with songwriter Libby Titus in the year 1993. The two did not become friends until 1987, when they were both backstage at a Dr. John concert. Despite the fact that they both attended Bard College at the same time, they did not know each other.

Donald Fagen has an estimated net worth of $40 million dollars, as of 2023. Fagen has continued to tour as Steely Dan’s lone original member after Becker’s passing in 2017

Titus was allegedly slammed against a marble window frame on January 4, 2016, while the two were living in their flat on the Upper East Side. This allegedly caused Titus to receive injuries. Titus revealed to the New York Post that she was ending her marriage to her husband and filing for divorce. Since then, the two have made up with one another.

In the summer of 1970, Becker and Fagen began the process of becoming Steely Dan after answering to an advertisement published in the Village Voice by guitarist Denny Dias looking for “a bassist and keyboard player with jazz chops” Dias was immediately blown away by the capabilities of the two individuals, particularly the fact that they already have a large quantity of their own work.

On January 10, 1948, Fagen was born in Passaic, New Jersey, to Jewish parents. His father, Joseph “Jerry” Fagen, was an accountant, and his mother, Elinor, was a homemaker. Elinor had been a swing singer in the Catskill Mountains of upstate New York from the time she was a child until she was in her teens. Joseph “Jerry” Fagen was an accountant.

After receiving inspiration from Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac, and Lawrence Ferlinghetti, he graduated from South Brunswick High School in 1965 and enrolled at Bard College to study English literature. In 1967, he met Walter Becker in a coffee house, and the two began working together. Becker and Fagen were successful enough to attract a rotating cast of musicians, one of them was Chevy Chase, who would go on to become an actor.

Following the recording and release of their third long-playing album in 1974, the other members of the band either quit or were fired, and the band eventually transitioned into a studio project led by Becker and Fagen. The year 1977’s Aja, which was certified platinum, was Steely Dan’s album that sold the most copies. After waiting another three years, they finally launched Gaucho. The band did not release their subsequent record until 1995, when they presented their live album titled “Alive in America.”

Following the dissolution of Steely Dan in the year 1981, Fagen issued his first solo album, titled The Nightfly, in October of 1982. It reached position number 11 on the Billboard Top 200 albums chart and was awarded the platinum certification for sales of more than a million copies in the United States. The debut song, “I.G.Y.” was issued in September of 1982, and it reached its highest position on the Hot 100 at number 26.

Throughout the remainder of the 1980s, Fagen was active in the music industry, making contributions to soundtracks and writing columns for Premiere magazine. During the early 1990s, he was a member of the New York Rock and Soul Revue and traveled with them. In 1986, Becker and Fagen collaborated once again on the release of model and vocalist Rosie Vela’s debut studio album. Fagen contributed to the production of Walter Becker’s debut solo album, 11 Tracks of Whack, as well as playing keyboards on the record.

In the format known as Music Video Interactive (MVI), Fagen’s first three albums were compiled into a box set and given the name The Nightfly Trilogy. Along with supplementary audio and video content, each album comes equipped with DTS 5.1, Dolby 5.1, and PCM Stereo mix; however, there is no MLP encoded track included.

Eminent Hipsters was the title of the autobiography that Fagen released the next year. In 2022, a book titled Nightfly: The Life of Steely Dan’s Donald Fagen was written by biographer Peter Jones and published.

Summing-Up

In 1982, he released his debut solo album, The Nightfly, which was later shortlisted for seven Grammy Awards. He went on to have a successful solo career. As a member of Steely Dan, Fagen was honored with induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the year 2001. Fagen is the sole surviving original member of Steely Dan after Becker passed away in 2017, and he has kept touring with the band.
